Owner description: Picturesque section of old Salzburg, the street a relic of Roman times, was once a center for tradesmen. Today it has become a refined area of stylish small bars, book and wine stores.

“Narrow cobblestone street hidden away”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2014

There were some interesting plaques, nooks, crannies and buildings built into the rock. We went via the Steingasse as we crossed from one side of the river to the other. Because you don't have to make a special trip (just incorporate it into your route) why would you miss out on this interesting part of the cities heritage?

“a travel back to medieval ages”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2013

Walking through the tiny and narrow streets of Steingasse is sure like a trip back to the past...
I liked it so much that i went there every single day i spent in Salzburg to just wander around the street, looking at the pubs, stores and restaurants of the street.

By the way, there is a restaurant which sells an amazing kebab in this street, i think is the only kebab house on steingasse, so you can't miss it!

“cute cobblestone street, remains of the city wall”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2012

Cute, narrow street with cobble stone. Start from the square 'Platzl' (little square), Steingasse (stone street) is on the right. The street winds along the Kapuzinerberg and there are still some remains of the old city wall. Every once in a while you'll have a nice view to the river and the opposite river bank. Make sure to end your tour with a beer or wine in Andreas Hofer's.

Parts of the street were featured in the movie 'Knight and Day'.

“Old and dark”

There is nothing special about Steingasse beside the fact that it was famous for it's Bordell and Gay Pubs. If you are not looking for this kind of experience don't visit
