Arena City Hotel Salzburg
Ranked #111 of 132 Hotels in Salzburg

Late check in was the reason for which we chose this hotel in Salzburg. We found a helpful staff but a tired hotel. The room is big enough but four stars is a bit over rated. We stayed here just one night. For transit it's ok.

We stayed in this hotel for three nights after arriving from Vienna by train. Once we got off the train we walked outside of the railway station to the buses which were outside and the bus we took delivered us virtually to the front door of the hotel after about a 10 minute bus ride. What a wonderful surprise to find a great hotel in a quiet location, within easy access to the centrum by buses. The room was very clean, quiet and comfortable. The buffet breakfast was sensational and amongst the best we have experienced anywhere for the money. Staff were very friendly and helfpul. Although a little distance away from the city centrum, it was not such an issue for us. Public transport is great and very convenient. Keep this one on your list if you are looking for reasonable priced and great accommodation. Highly recommended

We stayed in several hotels during our trip in Europe last August, and though I like Salzburg a lot, this hotel is the worst hotel we stayed in. The air-conditioner didn't work, and the wifi worked only occasionally. Breakfast was awful: maybe it is because we were an Asian group, we were isolated in a function room for breakfast and the food provided to us was really pathetic.

We recently stayed there for 3 nights. We came from Vienna by train and bus no 1 from Salzburg bahnhof takes you to the hotel and takes about 10 minutes. The frequency of the buses is good and you need to get down at Aribonenstrabe just near the hotel.
Hotel room was spacious and comfortable. Cleanliness was maintained. Breakfast was very good and had many choices.
Staff was very good and helpful. They helped us by arranging our sightseeing tours. Room has a nice view.
Overall great stay.

This is a great hotel, very clean spacious room with friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is situated out of the city center so I'd recommend it to travelers traveling by car. There is parking on the premises. Also if one is in Salzburg on the weekend parking anywhere on the public roads in the city is free of charge so there is no need to park in the paid parking areas which can be rather expensive.

Horrible! The room was totally run down, the furniture is from the 1980s, chairs were partly broken, carpets were worn down, furniture partly lost coating; the room was dark in color and lighting, a cheap no-name 24" LCD was the TV, I had only two power outlets in the entire room - this is supposed to be the BUSINESS ROOM!!! The free WiFi s***s, slow as hell, and the centralized A/C gave me a headache!
Besides that, I had two single beds, and one was already dirty, had (pubic) hair on it and other hair and looked like made three weeks ago. I had to spend two nights there, but sure will not spend a night there again.
The neighborhood is very strange and absolutely unsafe at night!
You need a code for everything and you have to ask for it! If I check into a hotel as a business traveler and book a business room, I expect I don't have to ASK for the WiFi code or for the garage code!! The garage is joke in itself, take care! It is scary dark, small and too narrow to park modern cars. And there is a height difference in the floor, so a guarantee to scratch the bottom of your car (because you don't see it with this poor light)

Room Tip: if you want a good room, go someplace else

We stayed in the above hotel as part of a group in August for three nights and with temperatures in the high 20's we discovered, to our disbelief, that in this so called '4 star' hotel there is NO AIRCONDITIONING in the bedrooms. This meant that windows remained open at night which resulted in both my husband and myself being bitten by mosquitos. There are absolutely no faciliies in the rooms (e.g. no tea/coffee making facilities, no built in wardrobes for your clothes; although they did provide 6 hangers on two bars; no iron, no trouser press, no bottled water, no mini bar, nothing! we could go on infinitim) We stayed in a dreadful bedroom on the first floor. On this floor the external flat roof is level with the window cill and this roof was used for discarding cigarette ends and 'q' tips and was very noisy at night. The beds were the hardest beds we have ever 'slept' on and are constructed of a pedestal with a sheet of chipboard base and an extremely hard mattress. A simple request for two pillows and an iron took 3 unanswered phone calls and two visits to reception before the pillows arrived in the room a day later - no iron was received but an offer to send a chambermaid up to do it for you - we declined.
We arrived back from a day trip at 5.00pm to discover our rooms had not been serviced. As we were going out again at 7.00pm, I went to reception and complained bitterly that the room had not been serviced and we had to reuse our towels from that morning to get ready for our 7.00 pm departure and could we have clean towels - up to the time we left no towels were provided, nor was the room serviced, even though we approached our tour representative, who also tried, but nothing was done.
This hotel is so outdated that it cannot be, by any standards, a 4 star hotel. All groups staying in the hotel are allocated an area for breakfast. The tables for our 3 day stay were never cleared once during service which meant that if you came down late for breakfast you had to clear the used dishes yourself and eat your breakfast from a dirty table, the staff did not clean tables until all the groups had left.
This hotel is situated in a commercial/residential area and requires a 20 minute bus journey into the town centre. Who rates hotels in Austria? I suggest a revisit for that person as most of our group found it difficult to believe it would achieve 2 stars - If you don't believe us then stay there, you have been warned!!!. We have, of course, written to the holiday company, but have had no official reply as yet, Those of you in our group if you haven't done this so far, do it now.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor are dreadful - We understand that the 3 rd floor is an improvement but stil...
