“A little noisy, but clean, friendly, and really close to the Old Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2010

Stayed here for two nights from 26 June 2010, after reading a lot of good things about the hostel. We stayed in a room for 2 (2 single beds end on end) with a private bathroom including toilet and shower. These rooms are obviously used by students during the school term, and there’s plenty of space, and storage, as well as 2 separate desks. Our room was basic student accommodation, but very clean – the service from the lady at reception was outstanding – she spoke perfect English, arranged internet access for our room (2Euro for the whole day – cable broadband), gave us advice re. catching trains, and booked a taxi for us when we checked out. Breakfast was bread & jam with either tea or coffee. On the downside, our window faced onto a small square, which was very noisy at night with nearby pubs/cafes – add this to the bells which ring ‘til 11pm and start again around 7am, and it’s hard to sleep soundly without earplugs. That said, the location of the hostel is excellent – many cafes & restaurants nearby, and the Old Town is only 10mins walk away. The location & service easily counter the noise, and I’d certainly recommend this hostel as a budget stay in Salzburg.

An old catholic nunnery. It's good value if there are a few of you to share a dorm room. Very central. Rooms are average but the building is very interesting with lots of random artifacts.

I rated this place 'very good' because it is in the 'hotel' section, and this really isn't a hotel. It is more like a dorm with ensuite bath. However, it is a fabulous place to stay for the money. It is just across the river from the old town, and is very close to Mozart's house, as well as a quaint commercial section with lots of restaurants and shopping. The folks that run the place are very nice and helpful, even though none of them were fluent in English. We were on the fouth floor, although there was an elevator for guests. The room had 4 beds in it (although there were just 2 of us), with separate rooms for toilet, and the shower and two sinks. The accommodations were roomy and clean, but very dorm like. In fact, there were some music students staying there, and sometimes you could here them practicing down the hall. For a couple of Euros, they offer the use of a washer and dryer, which we used and were very greatful to have a a very reasonable cost. Breakfast was included, and was very nice. So, don't hesitate to stay here if you don't mind the dorm like setting.

I stayed at this hostel because I'd left it too late to book at the HI hostel, and I'm glad I did. This place was fantastic! The room was wonderful. After having to share with other people for the previous month, an ensuite bathroom was great. The price included breakfast each morning, which while simple was still yum. The location was great and it was easy for me to explore salzburg by foot. It's also not too far a walk from the train station, about 10mins or so. The only downer is the bells, but there are quite quaint after a couple of days.

It's hard to compare this to a hotel, because it is literally a college dorm. But it's much nicer than I had in college. It's not inexpensive though - we paid almost as much as some hotels we stayed in. I chose this place for something different, and the convenient on site parking (free). The rooms and bulding are very nice and exceptionally clean. The staff is helpful (like when we needed to find doctor) and the location is excellent (just a quick walk to the center). Breakfast is very basic, coffee, tea, orange juice, and one roll with butter/jam, but that was fine with us.

For the price, you won't find a better deal in the old town of Salzburg. St. Sebastian is basically one of the many accomodations run by the Catholic church around Salzburg. They don't advertise, and it's a well-kept secret for those in the know- most people walk right by the big wooden door on the side street between Linzergasse and Paris-Lodron-Strasse. It's a dormitory for students as well as a simple guest house. For travelers who have basic needs for a bed, ensuite facilities, and turndown service, this is perfect for the money. These are dorm rooms and are very basic and functional. There's a kitchen on each floor, but most of the dishes, etc. are locked up in lockers rented by permenant residents. Plenty of places on Linzergasse to find a bite to eat though. Although there are much nicer places to stay in Salzburg, if all you need is a roof and clean, quiet place to sleep at a hostel price but without the excitement, St. Sebastian is my go-to option for whenever I'm passing through Salzburg.

We loved our stay here! It has all the basics of a hostel, except it is quiet. We stayed 3 nights with our 2 children in a quad room with our own bath. We were very comfortable. Rooms are truly dorm rooms. There are facilities for cooking, doing laundry, low-cost internet. Very clean. Don't stay here if you are expecting a typical hotel room. This is a great place to sleep.
