My wife and I stayed two nights at the Sacher and can’t praise the experience highly enough. I would describe it as an Old World European hotel, with excellent furnishings and décor. Recent renovations have only enhanced the hotel.
The hotel is located right on the water with easy access to everything you want to see in Salzburg and the smallish room was more than made up for by our balcony, with superb views of Salzburg river (spectacular at night). The bathroom was compact but immaculate. There was some traffic noise but this was more than compensated by the views.
We found the staff very friendly and helpful with some good tips for seeing the city, and really enjoyed the breakfast with plenty of choice in Cafe Sacher, a wonderful wooden panelled restaurant overlooking the river. Free Wi-Fi and the choice of television channels were a bonus as was the plate of cakes/desserts on arrival.
The Hotel is what one would expect from a 5 star Hotel and I would definitely stay again

Room Tip: Ask for a high room with river view- less traffic noise and spectacular views.

This hotel is in a fantastic location, and a perfect example of a proper old fashioned european hotel. It is old, so therefore not entirely 'spotless' and could do with a little updating here and there, but it was a pleasure to stay there and made you feel like going back in time! The breakfast buffet was great (if expensive!) and the staff were very helpful. I would certainly stay here again if I were to visit Salzburg in the future.

The one downside is the price. Compared to other places I've stayed around the world, this hotel was incredibly expensive, but compared to other similar hotels in Salzburg, it's fairly competitive.

Located right on the water with easy access to everything you want to see in Salzburg. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The Cafe Salzburg is attached and had great service as well and a good breakfast. The rooms were spacious enough and furnished nicely.

No complaints, everything lived up to my expectations. Friendly and helpful staff and perfect location. Room was spacious enough and beds were comfortable. Did not do breakfast in the hotel but in the hotel cafe which was good and more reasonably priced. Would stay again.

Stayed here six times. And it's always perfect. Any stay in Salzburg is heaven but this is the best hotel. The rooms have been renovated but still retain all the atmosphere of its past. The breakfast is excellent and the situation on the banks of the river makes it perfect for watching Salzbug beautifully illuminated at night. I've been with and without children. Salzburg has tons to do for them.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Sacher for a week. The location is ideal as it is a short walk to most areas of Salzburg. The staff were friendly particularly once they knew you were there for several days, they were always helpful and responsive.

The room was pleasant and there was a sacher torte to greet us on arrival which was a nice touch. The air con was a little weak but worked fine.

There are several restaurant cafe options there with similar menus.

Overall we had a great time and would stay there again when in Salzberg.

A bad experience to get a ridiculously small room in a 5star renomated and renovated hotel.
The available space was packed with the bed, a huge shelf ounder the inside opening windows and the luggage rack.I had to move the only available chair, wedged between bed and shelf, to get around. In the lilliputian bathroom the washbasin was wedged (no centimeter left) between toilet and bath. During my four day and three night stay the smell of bad plumbing was prevalent, even with the airco on. Bedlinen was not changed everyday, the duvet cover was just turned around.
When booking I asked for a large bed, but the specimen I got was 1.00/1.10 wide.
At arrival I had the choice of leaving the luggage outside and get a porter or carry it myself up the stairs and it took a very long time to find my booking and check in.

Have they never heard at Sacher about singledom and solo travellers. ("About 60% of woman and not only in the west.) An outdated little girls' room at Sacher is not an option.

The location, as with most hotels in the compact Salzburg center, is excellent and near the theaters, shops and interesting sites.
A senior worldwide solo traveller staying in 4/5 star hotels.

Room Tip: Book a room with the river view, and, although it is a 5star hotel, check the available room and...
