The cable car trip is excellent and that is only the start. Once you get up the top there are stunning views which you cany enjoy on foot or from a cafe and viewing area. A few hundred metres of active walking (my mother is 70 and managed it without problem)will take you to the summit.Get the Salzburg card before you go as 20 euros to go up and the card is only 25 euros a day and includes free entry into lots of other attractions and free public transport to get you there.

The only way to reach the summit is by cable car so if you're wary of heights I wouldn't recommend it. The trip is well worth it however. The views are spectacular although, because of the nature of the attraction, you would 'want to be reasonably confident of a clear cloudless sky when you visit..

It must be a mainly winter attraction because we visited in mid summer and were surprised how few people were there. The bar/restaurant at the top of the cable car had one lacklustre staff member and the main restaurant a bit further on was closed. Admittedly we were late afternoon visitors but there was still an hour or so until the last return cable car.

Getting there is about half an hour via the No 25 bus and it is the only extended trip that's included on the Salzburg "24 Hour Card" (which is good value for money if used properly).

I t was the first time to me to ride a cable car on this height, itwas a nice experience, the mountain was terrific and the landscape was unbleivable. We was lucky because the weather was good.

Went to ontersberg mountain, but the weather was bad its a high gandola ride, very cloudy, so to be honest didnt see nething.. But yes more then ontersberg i loved eagles nest u see the same mountains, accesibility is good both are almost on same hight, so some one with vertigo can go to eagles nest without taking this long gandola ride to ontersberg the view is breathtaking from top and u get to see the small town when you come down the town has beautiful sites of the mountains... Overall ontersberg was a little over rated according to me

Salzbury card gives express entry to cable car and saved us a big queue. The views from the top are great and there are lots of well signposted paths for walking.
