“Great little boutique hotel in the heart of Salzburg Old Town”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

I planned this trip to Salzburg for my boyfriend's 30th birthday. Having carried out lots of research in to location, rooms and service Hotel Am Dom was the obvious choice:
- Located in the old town, it was exactly where you want to be
- The rooms were decorated in a contemporary, tasteful style whilst keeping the traditional features of the building. I decided to pay a little extra for the top room which had a free standing bath at the end of the bed, making the stay all that more special and worth every penny
- Pre-stay I must have emailed the staff about 10 times asking for recommendations and advice on other parts of my trip - every time they replied with comprehensive and very helpful information. This is a boutique hotel, don't expect international 4/5* service where you are waited on 24/7. The staff are friendly, personal and efficient, particularly Josef the owner.

Anyone going to Salzburg, I can't recommend this hotel enough.

Rooms are ample size but a bit crowded with tub, glass shower room, and sofa. Location is excellent within walking distance to everything. Very quiet area at night, no cars or Per's walking down the secluded but very safe street.

Two amazing cathedrals just outside the front door. Take the brief walk from the hotel to the abbey cemetery from the Sound of Music. It will bring the movie to life.

We arrived in Salzburg on what was the last celebration day for Oktoberfest. Hotel Am Dom is located on a side street off of the Mozart Square. The side street must have been "the" place to be as it was wall to wall people....but there was indeed excitement in the air.
Our cab driver dropped us off just at the end of the street as it is a pedestrian only street. We made our way to the hotel where we were graciously met by Medhat and his staff. The reception area is quite narrow but we were quickly checked in and taken by lift up to our room. The room was quite spacious (it was a room for three). Very modern and sleek. The flat screen TV dominated the wall opposite the master bed. The love seat was folded out to make a bed. There was great working AC. Wifi was only picked up down in the breakfast area.
Our only complaint would be with the bathroom.
I was traveling with my aunt and another friend who is also a retired educator. The bathroom is quite large with a tub, large walk-in shower, double sink and a toilet in its own enclosed space---the problem was the lack of doors. There was not a door on either entrance to the bathroom and the door for the toilet was frosted glass that did not come to floor or ceiling--it did not latch but just hung in place. There was very little privacy if any. Also if anyone got up in the night to go to the bathroom, turning on the light lit up the entire room, waking anyone who might be sleeping.
Even though we were three ladies traveling together of family and friends, we still wanted/ needed some privacy in the bathroom--alone, without feeling we were in the middle of the room with everyone involved.
Breakfast was small but nice with fresh cappuccino, the offer of a fresh scrambled or boiled eggs, toast, pastries, cereal and fresh fruit.
The hotel is perfectly located within easy walking distance to all the historic, as well as sites of interest, in the old town of Salzburg. We participated in two separate tours while in Salzburg and easily walked back from town at the Mirabell Gardens.
Salzburg is wonderful!! Things on the streets were not as crazy after Oktoberfest ended, so walking and exploring was not fretful but quite enjoyable. I fell in love with Salzburg---it has an extremely low crime rate, life seems orderly and everyone seems to enjoy the outdoors.
Hotel Am Dom is perfectly located and offers wonderful accommodations minus a bit of privacy.

Room Tip: Very nice hotel minus privacy in the bathroom

Excellent design, maximizing the space in a typically european room size. Modern space in an old building, in the perfect location, right off the main square. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Can be tricky to get to if driving, but staff will provide map and good directions to parking. Hot breakfast with whatever kind of eggs you want, made to order!

Nestled in between the shops on Goldgasse, this boutique hotel is a perfect place to stay in Salzburg. The hotel staff are helpful and friendly and rooms are neat. I was there during Rupert's Festival so there was lots going on in the square but the hotel was a nice refuge from all the hustle and bustle.

Located down a quiet side street am Dom is in a great location, rooms are very modern and clean. Staff were helpful and the included breakfast was good. Only downside was the wifi was a little patchy and inconsistent.

We only stayed overnight in January 2012. The room was very clean and comfortable, beautifully decorated, breakfast was great and the staff and owner were lovely. We would stay again if we get back to Salzburg.
