“The exterior in now way reflects the interior or the service”

We arrived late morning and as the driveway was full we parked in a gravel patch across the road. We followed some well hidden signs right around what would be the the obvious entrance to the building up the steps and around the corner to the furthest doorway we could find and this is where the directions came to an end. After much calling out and knocking and walking around finally the cleaning lady came to our aid. We eventually got to our room which was very basic and a bit smelly. Furnishings basic and flooring lifting. Sadly the cleaner and ourselves did not have a language in common and she was friendly and smiling but unable to give us any instruction as to how to get to town or how things worked with regard to coming and going and breakfast. We found our way to town using our phone maps and although the walk is not a quick one but it is a nice one. You are positioned behind the castle and so to get to town you have to walk up to the castle and over and down the steps to town. As a lot of people do when visiting Salzburg we stayed out for dinner and a concert which finished at 10 and we walked back arriving by about 10.20pm. We had a hell of a time finding our way to the back door in the dark - not one security light came on to light our way. We got to the back door which was locked and as we could not see the lock we felt around to try to open the door but had no luck. We were none the wiser as to how to get in so my husband rang the 'night bell' that he'd seen during the day. After repeatedly ringing the bell the owner (identified the next morning) put her head out of the window and basically told us not to wake her and slammed it shut again. We realised we were on our own so I tried the key again and managed to find the lock and it worked and we got in. None of us could shower as the shower drain was blocked. The sheets were filthy - you could tell they had been slept on already and hadn't been changed. I used my sleeping bag. In the morning we were treated with disdain. There was no belated welcome or even feigned interest in our difficulty in getting in. She couldn't care less and was more interested in fussing over her preferred guests. It was a nice place to leave.

We stayed 2 nights at Eva Maria and enjoyed a double en-suite room with balcony and views of the mountains. The room was a little dated but was good value. There was some traffic noise.

Breakfast was simple, yogurt, bread, ham and cheese, butter, jams and tea and coffee.

The male owner/manager did not respond well to our questions and we felt that customer service could be improved.

Eva Maria is about 10 minutes walk, over a fairly steep hill, into Salzburg Altstadt, which is really beautiful and there are many restaurants for snacks and dinner.

We arrived in Salzburg on Christmas Eve, which we learned while over in Austria is the day most families celebrate Christmas. Our trip over on the new Westbahn train from Vienna couldn't have been more comfortable, and it was surprising how many persons were traveling (including a woman with a VERY hairy dog that shed all over the floor). Yes, you evidently can take pets on the train.
Our induction at Eva Maria was lovely, and the 4 days spent there were quiet, picturesque and full of amazing sights. Our room was situated in the perfect spot to see Untersberg Mountain just by opening the drapes. Lovely. We came and went independently, breakfasts were perfect amount, and the living/dining room was decorated sweetly for Christmas.
Since we arrived when so much was closed (including the restaurants our hostess presumed were open) we were a bit disoriented, but found a lovely dinner and the rest of our bearings in the light of day. Loved the little "Trip Advisor" recommended signs on a couple of restaurant doors downtown, which helped us to make impulse decisions on where to eat and drink.
Please enjoy walking to the old town or have a car if you stay here. It is quite a hike up steep hill, down through residential area and through a tunnel into the old city, but it gave us much to see and talk about on the way. We sandwiched this delightful B&B between more urban settings in Vienna and thought it was the perfect, chalet, 'non-touristy' interlude we wanted. Room was well maintained, large closets, basic amenities, including nice TV, phone. Just the right amount of interaction including a call for taxi. We really enjoyed our hosts and would return to this place again.

This place looks like it belongs in the Alps. The rooms were decent - nothing fancy, but not spartan either. The breakfast they provided was ample to get our morning started. The hotel/B&B is behind the Hohensalzburg (castle/schloss), but there is still a bit of a walk, maybe a little over a mile - not a big deal if you are a walker. It's semi-accessible by bus (you'll still have to walk a bit). You don't have to rent a car or take a cab everywhere. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others. Have some Stiegl beer while you're in Salzburg.

The room and bathroom were dated and smelled musty.
The smell of humid hit you as soon as you entered the building even though they kept the door jarred open.
We were given a room on the ground floor but one side of the house was below ground level so I guess that accounts for the humidity and smell.
The bed was lumpy and damp. Black mold in the shower and on the shower curtain.
A bottle of watered down hand soap was sitting on the bathroom sink but no other toilettries were available. Neither was a hair dryer. They did have nice fluffy towels though.
No phone in the room which I feel could prove vital in an emergency situation.

The breakfast room was lovely but that alone, paired with the fluffy towels, can certainly not make up for the condition of the room. They served a continental breakfast at your table and it was nicely presented. Bread, butter, jam, some cold cuts, apple juice, yogurt, coffee or tea.,

The positive reviews on TA surprise me. The only way I can find an explaination for them is that there may be refurbished and dry rooms on the upper floor so if you really want to risk it, I’d ask for one of those.

We found this Guesthouse to be miserable value for money and we would absolutely not consider staying there again. There are many 3 star hotels available in Salzburg for this price, I’d pick one of them!

Beautiful, quaint, quiet, very nice host and hostess--and despite another reviewer's very rude comments, Christian was very nice and professional and went out of his way to introduce us to the area, give us maps and directions, and even share a few activities we were interested in. Our room had a nice, warm shower, beautiful clean towels, a very, very comfortable bed, and access to a balcony which was nice to sit on while deciding where to go. My husband particularly appreciated the tv, which had a variety of different channels in different languages (to include English for those interested). A very short walk from old Salzburg (and after driving for hours, the walk was much appreciated!) Breakfast in the mornings was European style with meats, cheeses, breads, jams, butter, tea or coffee. Parking was across the street (free, by the way). Overall, very enjoyable visit and I'm hopeful we'll be back soon.
