Salzburg was the highlight of our maiden trip to Austria, and AllYouNeed Hotel was certainly the pick of the places that we stayed in during the trip. Technically, it's a 15-20 min walk from the Salzburg Hauptbahnoff, but I would advise travelers not to attempt this with their luggage, and just get on a bus which will drop them 5 min away from the hotel. I have forgotten the bus no. unfortunately (it was no. 2 or no. 4) but there is a Tourist Information office at the station itself, and it is a good idea to ask them the exact bus no. and the stop where you have to get off. I am specifically saying this since the website of the hotel recommends a 2-bus combination for reaching it, but the bus recommended by the tourist office does not require you to make any changes with your luggage, its just that the walk is some 2-3 minutes longer. The hotel is tucked away in a niche of it's own, next to a hill. And once you find it, you'll realize how conveniently located it actually is.
A 10-min (and yes, 10-min actually means 10-min) stroll takes you to the centre of the city, and all the tourist sites. However, this walk, at times, may actually stretch much longer, since the street that goes from the hotel to the old town is so cute, picturesque and buzzing, with cafes, shops etc., that you would constantly keep on getting distracted and stop after every 10 meters! Another street leads you to the lovely Mirabell Gartens, again just 10 min walk from the hotel. All the places of interest in Salzburg are closely-knit in terms of distances, so please do not get swayed by any advertising for transport passes, you honestly don't need to use any transport within the old town. Also, in case you are planning to catch a bus to Bad Ischl for going to Hallstatt, no need to go till the station, the bus stops at the bus stop near the hotel. (Again, have forgotten the name of the stop, pls check at the Tourist Information center)!
Coming to the hotel itself, in addition to the location, two things stand out to make it a fabulous place to stay: the staff, and the brilliant breakfast (included in the price). All the staff members seem to be students, they are young, chirpy, and extremely helpful, and pleasant to deal with. The breakfast happens on the terrace, and you get an amazing view of the city rooftops, and the hill behind you, from there. Wide assortment of food, and tasty to boot. The only slight 'complaint' is that the croissants are limited in number, and tend to get over early, so good to hoard some as soon as you reach the breakfast room :-)
The rooms are big, and very hostel like, but a plush hostel I must say. No AC, but it was cold when we were there, so obviously didn't need it. The street outside is extremely quite, since it is not a public road going 'to' anywhere, just has some pedestrians.
Would we go there again? Absolutely. We would be mad not to!
