There is an entrance fee of 3.60 Euros or free with Salzburg Card. I would highly recommended this card while in Salzburg as you will have lots of free access to a lot of attractions and discounts. The lift takes you to the top of a hill with magnificent and breathtaking views. This location featured in the 'Sound of Music' film. A must location to visit to enjoy the Panoramic View of Salzburg. There is a restaurant and a modern Museum on top of the hill. As you would expect the restaurant gets crowded at 12.00pm to 2.00pm. Food and drinks are expensive as it is a tourist spot.

Allow 30 minutes for your visit to enjoy the scenery unless you are having food or drinks in the restaurant or visiting the museum.

We discovered this lift when looking for the Museum of Modern Art which is most easily accessed by taking it. The lift solves one of the problems of Salzburg for many travellers. The problem is that the nature of the rock formations around the city is such that to get to vantage points for views of the city and mountains beyond often requires a steep climb which is beyond some people, and a bit like hard work for anyone. For a small fee this lift takes you up the Monchsberg where you can enjoy sensational views, visit the cafe/restaurant and/or the Museum of Modern Art. Personally I recommend them all.

The lifts are fast and efficient to add to the ease of the experience.

Speed lift took us to a high view to the whole beautiful Salzburg. There was a nice restaurant where we can sit for the sunset

This offers a good city view, but we did not go into the museum of modern art at the top. It would probably be a good place to have lunch, but it was raining. Instead, we trotted down to the giant and amazing monastery pub through the park at the back of the hill and had a pint in the great hall.
