After a really rocky start on arrival, this hotel bounced back (courtesy of Ramone) to do its best to facilitate us once the mistake on booking had been identified, and I feel that this is a true testament to the operation of this lovely property.

While waiting you can help yourself to coffee, fruit and so on.

The decor of the rooms is unique - and clearly alot of effort has gone into this, including very sophisticated engineering & lighting etc.

The hotel is charming in a quiet street, and makes for a very pleasant short stroll to the bridge and old town.

Unfortunatley we did not get to the pool - but there was a nice collection of DVDs, which included, of course, the sound of music.

Situated about 10 mins walk to the main bridge crossing to the main area, very near Mirabell gardens, we stayed in hotel part across from the main hotel, room & bathroom was small but nice, it was extremely hot and there is no a/c, a fan was provided but this was of little use, it was very difficult to sleep with the heat, it is the only complaint i would have, low 30's during the day and high 20's at night. Buffet breakfast was very nice, staff were extremely helpful. good location, nothing really beside the hotel, few restaurants/shops on way to the river.

We stayed at the Wolf years ago. It was good then but it's even better now.

The reception/bar area is lovely. Free coffee and cakes in the afternoon!

Hotel staff superb - courteous without being smarmy. Typical Austrian breakfast with loads of coffee. Nice room, comfy bed, no air con, but fresh mountain air outside. The best bit by far was the superb spa in the basement. The sauna and steam room are to die for, very relaxing. Good little pool too (and not too cold). The spa alone was worth the money.

We booked direct with the hotel and felt we got a good price. Location is great as it's fairly quiet, close to some good restaurants (the Hotel Stadtkrug restaurant was superb) but only a short walk into town.

We spent 10 nights at the Wolf Dietrich Hotel in January and thoroughly enjoyed it. We arrived near midnight and the receptionist Alex was so welcoming and put us at ease immediately, really surpassing our expectations.

Salzburg is a beautiful city, with lovely authentic Austrian restaurants. There is a great vegetarian restaurant just a few doors up from the hotel serving Indian food with friendly staff.

The spa at the wolf dietrich was so relaxing, after a hard day sight-seeing we spent the cold afternoons chilling out in the relaxation area and steam room. Absolute heaven!

We where in the annex across the street from the main hotel, but this didn't annoy us. The room was a bit old fashioned but very spacious and adequate in every way.

All in all a great hotel and holiday!

Plus Points:
Very good organic breakfast selection.
Lovely spa facilities.
Decent location - 10 minutes walk to Old Town
Nice lounge area and seating area in the street.
Free internet access

Negative Points:
Staying in the Residenz building means lots of flights of stairs - no lifts
Residenz building is above a Casino. We were woken 2 consecutive nights in the early hours by drunken shouting and fighting in the street.
No airconditioning hence the need to keep windows open.
Room was decent but there are better 4* rooms.

My husband and I stayed in this lovely hotel for 3 nights. The room was well appointed, with a large sitting area and awesome bed. Our only complaint was no air conditioning, as it was very hot in Salzburg during our stay. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect, just across the river from town central. The breakfast buffet, included, was nice, although not much variety.
So much to do in Salzburg that we wished we had more time. Incredible shopping, restaurants, historical sights, museums, tours. Not to mention the chocolate! We definitely want to return.

We stayed in two hotels, a resort, and a zimmer in Austria, and the Wolf-Dietrich was the best price/experience value of all. Initially concerned about not staying in the Old Town (Altstadt), it was such an easy walk that we didn't have any trouble at all. My wife and I easily caught the bus from the train station, and walked everywhere else we wanted to see in Salzburg. We were quite glad to not have to deal with a car. This hotel was the only one of our four lodgings that provided a fan(!) Very clean, breakfast as good as anyone's, comfortable room, easy walk to the sights and food, I just don't have anything bad to say about it. It's not a "value chain" at all, or cheap, but at least we solidly got what we paid for here. The month of May was plenty warm enough, by the way. Our tour guide (Bob's Tours, another solid value) said July-August regularly hits a hundred degrees now. OK, one complaint since no one seems to mention it--hotels in Austria do not provide top sheets, at least in our four-city experience. Just letting everyone know.
