“Great hotel, great location”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

We stayed in the apartment building of the hotel (just across the street of the main hotel).
The building itself (corridors etc) are quite simple but the room was beautiful. Very spacious, full of light from the big windows overlooking the street.
The hotel is located a minute walk from the beginning of the old town and two minutes from the river and the rest of the old town - absolutely excellent location, and the street is a pedestrian street which makes it very quite.
If you are arriving with a car you can enter the street with your car, unpack your luggage and exit the street. The only downside is the parking - it costs 15€ a day in a public parking just around the corner (you get a special ticket from the hotel and pay with it at the parking place).
The breakfast was very nice, in the main building.

After cancelling reservations at two other hotels to "upgrade" to this one, we weren't overly impressed. We stayed in the residence across the street. The rooms were nice, breakfast was good and it was in decent walking distance of most places we wanted to go. But in the end, for the price we paid (and compared to the other places we stayed in Germany and Austria), this hotel was just okay.

We stayed at the Hotel Wolf-Dietrich on a friend's recommendation and were not disappointed. The hotel is nicely located just a short stroll from the old city center. We stayed in the Residence across the street from the hotel itself and found it quite pleasant. The room was not huge but certainly fine for a few nights. Beds were comfortable and the place was spotless. Internet service, on the other hand, was spotty. Breakfast was ample with a good variety and attentive staff. We didn't get to the pool, but did take advantage of the afternoon tea offered in the lobby.

Excellent hotel in fantastic location. Staff very friendly & helpful. Good breakfast would highly recommend staying here. Walking distance to old town, close proximity to good restaurants and cafes. Room was nicely cleaned and good size with sitting area. Elevator in hotel is always welcome when taking suitcases to your room.

We booked this hotel in August, mainly because we couldn't find anything with a/c available in the Old City (as it turns-out, the annual singing competition was going on and the city was packed). The staff was very friendly and was happy to give directions, call our tour operator when a van that was picking us up ran late, and generally help in any way. We were placed in the hotel's second building across the street, but this was not a problem. The rooms were not large, but well appointed with a nice, modern bathroom in the one room. The second room's bathroom was a little older and narrower. Each room had an air conditioner, but here's a valuable tip: you may have to insert your room key into a little slot on the wall to get it to work (it took a little bit for us to figure that out).

Breakfast is served in a room in the main hotel. There are a few outdoor tables, if you prefer, but the interior was pleasant with enough seating and white tablecloths. Meats, cheeses, cereals and bagels/rolls and fruit were the choices and other than some flies and little mini-yellow jackets which seem to be common in Austria buzzing around, this was a very nice setting.

There's a public car park a couple of blocks from the hotel which is convenient enough if you drive. it's about a 15-minute walk to the river and the bridges that cross over into the Old City. The most picturesque route is up the from the hotel about 6 doors and to the right into a pedestrian lane that rolls down through a lovely neighborhood with shops and eateries. Mirabel Gardens can be visited following a slightly different route; it's roughly a 10 minutes' stroll. We also walked to the Augustine Biergarten from the hotel (thanks, staff, for showing us the way), which was more like 20 minutes or so across the river and up a hill, but there was a cab outside to take us home when it started to rain, and that's also a nice, affordable option.

The hotel is on the list of pick-up hotels for the Sound of Music Tour if you book with Panorama Tours, which was very convenient.

The main negative I can think of was that in the second building, the elevator is small and only goes up to floor 3, so that if you're on 4, you have to drag your bags up a flight. But there's a nice, wide marble staircase that accommodates the trip and, in general, the building has a rich, clean feel. One of our bedrooms was painted dark purple which was a little "out there", but it was kind of fun. That room opened to an interior courtyard that was fairly quiet. The other room opened to the street, but this is not a high traffic area with mainly pedestrian movement below, so it was fairly quiet. Plus, you have the a/c so windows can be closed.

If you don't mind not being in the Old City (or prefer to be away from the high congestion of that neighborhood), the Wolf Dietrich isn't a bad choice. Friendly staff, car park nearby, nice breakfast included with room, tour pick-up at doorstep and pleasant walk to-and-from Old City with restaurants on along the way. I was there with wife and two kids, by the way. Two rooms worked-out well.

Room Tip: Avoid the 4th floor of the second building across the street if you absolutely can't carry a bag...

Well located, just off the main drag leading you into the old Salzburg Center, this hotel is o.k., but not more than that. Room was small, bathroom even smaller (the door cannot be fully opened) and furniture as out of a dorm. And although Salzburg being not cheap, thought the price paid for this was a bit over-the-top. Reasonably friendly, but again, not more than that.

The hotel is set in a very convenient position but Wolf Dietrich Strasse is quite noisy between
5.30 and 7 am. The rooms are standard and comfortable with a good shower but no
easy chairs. Beds are comfortable. We stayed across the road so the difference in views
maybe between those staying in the hotel and those across the road. Breakfast has a varied
offering but a bit light on hot food. Staff very pleasant and helpful.
