Only 4-5 min walk from the railway station. Coming from Munich with train late in the afternoon, I found its spacious rooms, decent breakfast for Eur 85, pretty reasonable value for money.

Keep in mind, it is a modern business hotel located in the modern part of the city, so don’t ask for historical ambience and be ready to walk for 15-20 min for getting to the tourist attractions.

I think a business oriented hotel like this one may bake in the wi-fi cost in the room price but asking for € 10-15 spoils otherwise nice impression of the hotel.

I found the Renaissance Hotel on the internet, after searching for reasonable hotles near Salzburg's main railway station. Travelling with my wife and two children on a Eurail Pass, we didn't want to drag suitcases any further than we had to when we got off the train !

When we left the station I thought I had made a big mistake. The Hauptbahnhoff - main railway station - is bit shabby and some of the people hanging around left a lot to be desired. We walked around the corner and saw the hotel and still were a bit aprehensive but after walking in the door, we had no regrets at all !

The reception staff was excellent and he went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed. We had two rooms - a king for wy wife and me and a twin for the children (13 & 11). The rooms are very spacious and beds are extremely comfortable. The hotel is in a quiet location - so no traffic noise and nothing at all from the nearby rail station.

There is no tea and coffee making facilities in the room, but you only have to ask and all the necessary items will be delivered to your room, free of charge. A great buffet breakfast was included in the room rate and is no way there could be any complaints about the quality or content.

A huge plus (when 4 of you are on the road for a month) is that the hotel is across the road from a laundromat which also has an internet cafe in it. A few steps further on and you have huge supermarket which, is ideal for picking up a few picnic things or finding a cheap bottle of wine to have with a snack. We actually found very good Australian wine there, chaeper than you could buy it in Sydney !

Out the front door of the hotel and turn left. Walk about 300m to Hauptbahnhoff Strasse and you will find a fantastic local restaurant and beer garden. No tourists to be seen. we ate there 4 nights in a row and still miss the place ! The food is authentic and reasonably priced with very generous portions.

The hotel is about 13 minutes walk from the old part of Salzburg and the walk along the river is very pleasant . Once you enter the old city, you do battle with the thousands of tourists who are trying to make their way through the very narrow streets. Great fun !

We stayed at this hotel for a weekend break and I can not fault it the breakfast was great and the room was huge. The only issue for some may be the location it's a 20 minute walk to the old town or 6-8 euro's in a cab.

stayed with my husband and my 15th month daughter from Jan 22nd-Jan 27th, 2009. The hotel is excellent and we loved our stay there. The room (room 427) was spacious, clean and above our expectations....I would highly recommend it and will definately go back again in the future.

Planned for 8 nights but stayed for only 2 nights, after realizing this hotel is more like a tired Comfort Inn / Days Inn than Marriott's premier tier

Room distinctly early 90s. Not uncomfortable but small by Renaissance standards and completely devoid of any character. In fact inside the hotel you couldn't tell whether you were in Minnesota or Salzburg

Food largely of the generic unhealthy American variety (mayonnaise-drenched Caesar salad, ribs,etc.).

Impossible to avoid smokers in the restaurants, lobby, car park, swimming pool.

Was shepherded away from the restaurant having been told that as a family of four our party size was insufficient: "This restaurant [the only one apart from the bar] is for large parties" - although there weren't any!

Staff polite but unhelpful.

Stayed here for the night on 22/12/08 with my wife. We were only in Salzburg for a short trip to see the Christmas markets and have a general look around. Yes it is a predominately business hotel, but our room was large clean and had all the ammenities you would expect from a large chain hotel. Breakfast was unbelievable. Every thing that you could imagine ie hot cooked stuff, continental meats, cheeses, fish etc. Also many kinds of fresh bread and I counted 4 different types of honey and four or five different jams.My only complaint,(and it would not stop me from using this hotel again) was that they charge for internet access (16 Euro for 24 hrs) I did not expect this and I think that it is something that the hotel should look at,as most hotels now have free wi-fi access.
