I stayed here with my wife and 15 year old son for three nights and couldn't find a fault. On arrival booking in was over a complimentary drink on the terrace whilst all of our luggage was taken to our room. We had interconnecting rooms which worked really well. We couldn't hear anything from other rooms. We ate in the restaurant twice and really enjoyed it. We love good food but don't always enjoy the "overly" attentive staff in some fine dine restaurants. Here they got the balance just right. Great food with good service but left us to enjoy our evening. The first night we were lucky enough to eat on the terrace in 30 degree plus weather. What a treat! We found the short walk to the liftbinto the old town worked well. The hotel felt like a country retreat yet within 10 minutes walk we were in the town centre. The walk back through the woods from the lift helps make this a special location. If you visit in good weather it it worthwhile walking to the lift after dark just to view the city. We got some great photos. We had a small problem with the shower in my sons room. The staff were so apologetic, attended to the issue straight away and then later in the day invited us to free drinks on the terrace as an apology. It was a minor issue and we didn't expect this, but in my view the response is indicative of the staff service we received throughout. If you can afford this hotel (it isn't cheap) I would thoroughly recommend it.

Yes, it's expensive but it is totally worth it. We stayed here for two days and didn't want to continue with our trip to Vienna. They make you feel special from the moment you arrive with a welcome drink, fresh fruit and a personal note in your room. Every day, you received more fruit and a card with a quote. The hotel and rooms are absolutely beautiful as well as the amazing view high above the city. It's an easy walk to the museum where you can take the elevator down into the city; the hotel will lend you a hotel pass. They took such good care of my 5-year-old and his dietary restrictions. The breakfast which is included is so good. There's a full menu to choose from. We were truly sad to leave and will have to make another trip to Salzburg just to stay here. Only issue is that it can be tricky to find. Thankfully, we had GPS but even we were doubting it as you twist and turn up narrow roads.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room on the ground floor. You have a patio and can easily walk around the grounds...

Amazing. We loved it! Expensive but worth it. We were upgraded to a suite and it was immaculate. Breakfast was a real highlight. Sitting on the terrace in the morning sun looking down through the trees at beautiful Salzburg. What could be better? The walk through the woods to the lift that takes you directly into old Salzburg takes about 10 mins. The hotel provide free passes for the duration of your stay. It is not entirely clear when the lift stops operating. One notice said 10:30 but it was still working at 10:45. Anyway you can always get a taxi back if necessary.

The staff was friendly, helpful and pleasant at all times. Our room was a large one on one of the base floors. All of the room facilities were in very good working order. It was also clean at all times. Its location is an oasis of tranquility.

More importantly, their retaurant gave us our two best dinner meals (interestingly prepared various fishes, meats and vegetables) of our two week vacation. It is not inexpensive, but was comparable to other stand alone better restaurants in Salzburg or Vienna. Even if you did not order dessert, the chef always had some little items included to end the meals.

I arrived in Salzburg with my brother on my 40th birthday, and much to our surprise and delight, the hotel had upgraded both of us from the standard rooms we had reserved to suites. They also had a delicious cake waiting for me in my room. The room was beautifully decorated/furnished in a manner that felt very authentic to Salzburg (I felt a little bit like royalty from the 1700s), and the bathroom was gorgeous. The service and food were also excellent. Even though this hotel is a little bit outside the actual city, it is very easy to get to with the elevator at the museum of modern art, and the peaceful walk on the road through the woods that you take to and from the museum is lovely, as is the quiet at the hotel and the amazing views you get being up on a hill. I couldn't have asked for a more special place to stay for my birthday.

In spite of what was said in a previous review, our car's GPS system had no trouble finding this delightful little hotel. We were invited to the bar to do the check in process and offered a free drink of our choice. Our car was valet parked for free and by the time we finished eating the lunch we had brought with us, our luggage was in our room. We were upgraded to a junior suite. The view out the window was of the woods as this hotel is built on the side on top of a hill. The bathroom was very modern and well appointed. Air conditioning initially was not responding to the remote control, but a call to the front desk immediately brought a gentleman who promptly corrected the issue.
It about a 20 minute walk along a forest trail to the fortress above Salzburg. We used the funicular to get down to the old town. In the evening we utilized the passes the hotel lent us for the elevator at the Museum of Modern Art to quickly get back up the hill.
We did not use the spa and the exercise room was bare bones (my only complaint).
If you would like a charming hotel that is convenient to the sites and shopping in Alt Stadt Salzburg, yet secluded in a clearing on top of wooded hill, the Hotel Schloss Monchstein is the place to stay.
