The Auersperg is a well appointed, comfortable hotel within easy walking distance of the historic centre of Salzburg, a range of passable restaurants and public transport. It also has onsite parking. The staff are friendly and efficient and the service is excellent. Our double room in the adjacent Villa, was well equipped and appointed, quiet, of a reasonable size, had a very comfortable bed, a mini bar and a bathroom with a bath. The breakfast was good, a well stocked continental buffet, cereals, porridge, breads, boiled eggs and bacon and eggs to order. The bar provides afternoon tea and cake as well as a range of cooked snacks. The house red wine is very good. The wifi is free and the hotel has computer facilities for guests use. The only drawback is that it is quite expensive - partly due to the £/euro exchange rate.

My daughter and I stayed here for one night on our bike trip from Munich to Salzburg to Geneva in late August 2013. We loved it. The hotel is close to the center so we could walk to dinner and the river; the rooms are large (we were in the villa building) and really nice with big new bathrooms with over-sized showers. The breakfast in the morning was gorgeous and just what we needed to get us on the road to Innsbruck. We'll be back to Salzburg someday soon and we'll stay here again.

This hotel provides the kind of personal service that you rarely get in Britain now. The room we had was very spacious; the bathroom in particular was fantastic. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast included a lot of fresh items, and we were able to take it on the terrace for the first two days. The beers include one from the family brewery. It is a little out of the centre of Salzburg, so be prepared for a ten minute level walk, but because of this it is correspondingly quieter. I can thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: rooms not facing the road are quieter.

We loved this hotel. When we first arrived, before entering, we were dubious: it looks quite plain vanilla on the outside. But when you open the door and enter, a serene oasis awaits you. Our room faced the lovely garden and was spacious and comfortable. The sauna and steam room helped us overcome the small aches of a day sightseeing and walking up and down steps and cobblestones. Staff was invariably gracious, the breakfast among the best we've had in Europe, and the cafe terrace and garden the perfect place for a drink and a bite. It's not a long walk to the center of town, but you can grab the #4 bus, a block away, if you prefer (do get the Salzburg card if you indeed to stay at least two full days). If your lucky enough to be here on a Thursday, head to the fabulous farmer's market, just 3 blocks away, and shop for your picnic. Hope we get the chance to come back to this hotel and this city. We loved them both.

Room Tip: Facing the garden on a high floor would be my choice.
