“Close to the train station”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2009

My friend and I stayed two nights at this hotel in the train station area of Salzburg. The hotel is old fashion in decor but it does not feel old. We really enjoyed our stay here as the staff were accommodating to our questions and the room was comfortable.

As a simple way of discussing the hotel, our highlights included (1) Mozart ball on our pillow placed upon arrival, (2) the available sauna options ( there were 4 different and large sauna rooms) in their spa like area of the upper floor that also featured an exercise area and a bar area, (3) the traditional beer garden on site, and (4) the ease of access to their bike rental.

The location of the hotel is not that ideal for sightseeing as you are a 10 minute walk/5 minute cycle from the Old Town part of Salzburg. It is in and around the Old Town where all the major sites and restaurants are located. If you do not require easy access to the train station then it maybe worth booking something closer to the old town. However, if walking is not an issue then this is a great hotel especially due to the free spa. The reason we booked this hotel was (1) we required easy access to the train station and (2) we wanted complimentary breakfast. All the major bus routes and trains depart from the train station area so if you want to make Salzburg your access point to the Western part of Austrian, I would recommend this hotel. As far as the complimentary breakfast goes, well it was pretty standard. It wasn't remarkable but that is probably because I have travelled quite a lot and been spoiled by other places. ;)

We had one funny moment at the hotel. On our first night we went to the Business Centre where there is a free computer with internet access as well as printing ( coincidentally if you bring your laptop, the hotel has free WiFi). As we sat in the dark (we couldn't find a light switch) researching a lake side day trip, a guest/staff member walked into the adjoining smoke room and passed wind QUITE LOUDLY. He/she was kind enough to light a candle though, maybe it was because this individual heard us cackling? Perhaps...

Hope this helps you make up your mind!

If you want to stay close to train station, this is a good choice. You can take a bus to old town, right in front of supermarket and small shopping center for locals. restaurant was excellent. Other 4 star hotels we stayed were very modern, so at first we thought "is this a 4 star hotel??", but overall it was a nice hotel. You have to see their old fashion hair dryer though. spa upstairs were very nice (3 different types of saunas) their mini bar is not free. If you like hip, trendy place, this is not for you, but if you like clean affordable place to stay, I recommend this hotel.

I would highly recommend this hotel. The rooms are great for a european hotel room. The beer garden is a perfect place to hang out in the evenings and I highly recommend the food in the restaurant was delicious. The spa on the top floor is perfect for relaxing after a day of sightseeing. It's about 10-15 min. walk to the 'sites' of Salzburg. But it's very close to the train station.

We have just returned from a 5 night stay at this hotel over the easter weekend. While the weather was fantastic when it came to night with the air conditioning not working it was stiffling in the room and impossible to sleep. When I enquired at reception about the air conditioning system I was just told it was turned off.

We requested a non smoking room high floor in a uiet part of the hotel. The room was smoking situated on the first floor facing a busy road.

The leisure facilities were good and very clean. The breakfast was very good as long as you arrive early. It finished at 11 but by 10.15 it was all near;y gone with no further replenishments.

I dont know about a return visit............I think I would look elsewhere

I stayed here for a weekend during a 2-week business trip.
I liked this hotel a lot.
1. Staff were, without exception, welcoming and helpful.
2. The room was large and comfortable, with an excellent bed (Austrians really know how to do beds and duvets) and an original Austrian feel with wooden floors etc. And at 90 euros per night, pretty good value, I feel. Plenty of space, free internet, big bathroom - nothing lacking, frankly.
3. The hotel is close to the city centre (though it's hard to be far away, to be honest) and close to really good places to eat like the Stiegl restaurant and the PitterKeller at the nearby Crowne Plaza hotel. (There's also an Indian place up the road - good but not brilliant.)
4. There's a large car park - this was important for me as a business traveller.
5. Breakfast was good - wide range of foods, fresh fruit etc, just what I've come to expect in Austria. (While I was there, the restaurant was closed for renovation, but others have commented well on it.)
Recommended. I've stayed before at the Pitter (and it was very good) but this is as good and probably cheaper - and has a genuine Austrian feel, even though it's now part of a German chain!

Salzburg was the second destination for my husband and I on our Honeymoon. This is a wonderful Hotel! It was a 5 min walk from the train station, what more could you ask for?

We were pleasantly surprised that the hotel was fairly modern. Our room was really nice and very clean. It was small in typical European fashion but like I said, clean and up-to-date.

The service at the Hotel was good, they assisted us in booking a couple of excursions.

Breakfast was buffet style. Really good food, cheese, meats, fruit, breads, sausage, bacon, eggs. We loved the morning report. On every table was a news letter for the day giving the weather and any interesting tips about Salzburg for the day.
We had dinner in the dining room one evening, it was a really nice meal. My first taste of schnitzel.

The location was really good. It was across the street from a market and only about a 15 min walk to the old town. it's a beautiful walk. There are many things to see along the way as well.

Overall we really enjoyed the hotel and we would stay there again.

A clean hotel with good facilities. Room was spacious and well appointed. Full spa/sauna complex. The location was ideal for the railway station, and whilst away from the old town, Salzburg is so small you are never more than 10 minutes walk away from any site.

The restaurant is good - though I believe they are no longer organic (bio) - though the hotel literature still listed this, the sign outside was painted over. Otherwise, the food was ok, but the usual sub-standard hotel fare with very surly staff.

Otherwise, the hotel staff were friendly, though they couldn't get the Wifi to work. The showers were also a bit weak. Major plus point for Salzburg visitors - they have a 24hour Sound Of Music TV channel!
