“Best nockerl and ambience in old town”
Reviewed November 2, 2012

Wow! What a wonderful retreat from the hubbub of the streets of old town. Descending into this quaint restaurant soothes the senses the moment you enter. It is warm and cozy, and the staff extremely friendly. The Wiener Schnitzel was good but the nockerl is the best in town. We came two days in a row. We love this place!

“Nice and Quaint”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

We chose this more for the looks than any thought about the food. The restaurant/hotel is in one of the old alleys in the heart of the old town and just has quaint written all over it. When you walk inside you feel like you've gone back a hundred years.

We had the ubiquitous schnitzel, which was average size and as good as anywhere else, with the 3 or 4 bits of boiled potato that the Austrians seem to go for, rather than fried potatoes or chips that you tend to get in Germany (and which I prefer). Service was pleasant and efficient.

I'd come here again simply because it's so quaint and atmospheric.

One thing, like most higher rated restaurants in Salzburg, the tables seem to be reserved after 6pm, so unless you eat earlier or reserve you might get added to an already reserved table, which we saw happen here. You then either have to rush your meal and hope to get out before the others arrive or you can end up awkwardly sharing.

“Great service in old world charm”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

Restaurant recommended by a local that seemed to know his restaurants. Old world charm, timber and reindeer antlers, seemed to be many locals.

Excellent, friendly and efficient service, English spoken (really admire people that can switch from one language to another)

We visited to have a typical? Austrian schnitzel. Starters - beautiful beef carpaccio and a potato based soup (two people) - excellent.

Then the schnitzel arrived - wow ! Size really defines the meaning of " huge" - almost regretted having the starters - it is a big meal - simply presented with a couple of potatoes - a little dry - however quite acceptable - washed down with a local Chardonnay at a very reasonable price.

In summary - really enjoyed the meal - if returning to fabulous Salzburg (3rd visit) would return and avoid the starters.

“Cozy little restaurant in the heart of town”
Reviewed October 12, 2012

Cozy seating inside, tables outside and hearty meals with large portions. We stopped in after seeing patrons seated outside eating some kind of fabulous looking dessert. It was the Salzburger Nockerl, a very tasty meringue/souffle type concoction sitting on top of oodles of raspberries. We should have ordered one meal between the two of us - then we might could have finished the wonderful dessert!! Service was good, prices reasonable - this place warrants a visit.
