“Lovely hotel in Salzburg!”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

We stayed in Hotel Altstadt in October last year.

It's a great location, and we literally walked there from the train station (25 mins). We stayed in the top floor suite, it had its own little balcony overlooking the river and beyond. It was so beautiful, having a glass of wine watching the sunset.

The beds, facilities, bathrooms were great. All wooden, rustic, but well taken care of. Photos and more details, here : http://wp.me/p2mYTP-BR

We arrived after being unable to get to the Best Western due to the Sat Nav thinking we could drive through a four foot wide alley way. What a lucky find!

The night receptionist, Altaf was great. A really helpful pleasant guy who doubled up as the room service chef.

A very pleasant stay with great staff.

We stayed ther for some days. Knowing that Salzburg is expensiva all the year we felt that this was much too much. More than 500 USd for a little suite. You can watch TV only sitting on the bed. Next door living room ambiente is only a small bulb-lamp, nothing else, no TV, no nothing.
Breakfast is not so bad, nice location, but not to rank as high related to the price-level. We found other hotels nearby, which offered also nice rooms for less even having only 4-stars but were more better equipped and equal polite. Restaurant was totally empty, even that they claim having a gourmet-kitchenb, but all available hotel-guests went outside, so we did also.

Room Tip: We didn´t feel comfortable there and will choose another hotel next time.

An ideal location for walking the city. A very comfortable, clean hotel. Spacious rooms, and a great breakfast! There can be some noise from people walking from the bars at night - but a pair of earplugs works wonders and the location was worth it.

Old fashioned charm with stunning views of the river and mountains. Very spacious room (205) with a seating area and separate hallway. There were 4 large picture windows which opened onto the views and allowed the outside ambience to flood into the room. Comfy bed and nice big bathroom. We asked ahead for an early check in and a room with a view and we're not disappointed. The room was ready by 10am and the corner location meant we had beautiful views on 2 sides of the hotel. Downsides were no tea/coffee facilities or aircon in the room. There was also a lot of noise in the evening (until 3am) from the late night bars and clubs next to the hotel on the riverside which meant that the windows couldn't be opened at night.

Room Tip: No swimming pool or fitness centre but unable to uncheck the options above! Choose between rooms wit...

Booked well ahead and got a great rate at this Position A located hotel. Hotel has a contemporary mixed with old feel about it (not sure if that makes sense…) which we liked. Very clean and well kept. We had a room on the top floor which was magnificent…spacious with separate bathroom and toilet – made all the better by the cheap rate we managed to get. Reception friendly and efficient. Attached café – we had a quick lunch there – was good although expensive. Breakfast at €26 per person is ridiculously expensive (I have had cheaper in 5* hotels in London Mayfair) and had nothing more than an OK choice. Otherwise, stay here, eat across the road in a myriad of eateries and you will have a great stay in wonderful Salzburg.

I was in this hotel with my wife in March. The hotel is very good situated on the bank of the river and in the old town simultaneously. This hotel has two entrance. First from the river side and the second from the old town side. It is very convenient.
We had a problem with arriving to the hotel because it is impossible to reach the main entrance from the old town side by car at any time you arrive. It is pedestrian zone. But some cars are inside this area, including taxi, and it is not absolutely clear for me why it is impossible for the hotel guests to bring the car with huge luggage by the old town entrance and than park the car outside this area. Another opportunity you have for the hotel arrival - the entrance from the river side. It is the area with very intensive traffic and you will be lucky if you park your car just in front of the river entrance. There are several restaurants and bars around the hotel entrance and the entrance to the hotel between them. That is why it is difficult to park from that side in the evening. Also in the late evening the entrance from the river side usually closed. Not locked but closed with railing door. And it seems that it is closed and your should use another entrance. We spent enough time to understand how we can enter to the hotel. And it was 1p.m. Saturday Finally we leaved our car from the river side and go to the old town side by foot. But it was mistake decision because the river side entrance was closed but unlocked and it was possible to enter. Finally about 40 minutes to enter the hotel.
The hotel is really situated in the heart of Salzburg old town. And it is the main advantage you will have sating in this hotel.
From the other reviews I understood that the breakfast in the hotel is overpriced. And I booked the hotel with out breakfast. There are very many possibility to have breakfast around the hotel. The simplest is to have breakfast in the cafe Pamina which is situated 10 steps away from the hotel old town entrance. We paid just 20 euro for two persons. I highly recommend this cafe for breakfast. Also the very good possibility to have breakfast is Cafe Wurfelzucker. But it is very popular place in Salzburg and it is necessary to make reservation even for the breakfast.
Room we have in this hotel was big enough and clean. It was room number 211. It was not new but not also old room. Big bathroom and big bedroom with coach and armchairs and table. Minibar for the payment. The view was not fantastic. We can see just the wall of the next building from our windows. But I paid for the cheapest rate and I guess that it is possible to have good view to the river or old town for more money. The room was very quiet and comfortable for sleeping.
Personnel is very polite no problem during the stay.
