“Great location, great service, but hotel needs some repairs”
Reviewed April 29, 2013

If I were to rate this hotel by service alone, it would be 5 stars as the help I received from receptionist Frau Laugus was great. Via a few emails, promptly answered, my wife and I were upgraded to a suite for our anniversary weekend, and an offer to arrange for flowers delivered to the room was also extended to us. Frau Laugus knows what customer service means (take a note of this, hotel manager!) The other staff were very gracious and helpful as well.

Our room was on the top floor of the back building, so it was relatively quiet. Fresh fruit and a bottle of water was waiting for us. In the room there was a Nespresso machine, complimentary toiletries in the bathroom, and robes and slippers were provided... there were two televisions with plenty of channels to choose from (limited for you English-only speakers however), a comfortable double bed and large dresser. Two upholstered chairs, a small couch and small table rounded out the furniture. The usual massively expensive minibar was also present.

We had a nice terrace out on the roof with an iron table and two chairs, and a view to Hohensalzburg and part of the river. The room was clean, but some things were in need of repair: the drapery hook was pulled out of the wall (the hole has been patched numerous times); The television in the sitting area was dodgy as the signal kept jumping in and out; the door to the terrace needs to be replaced; the hook for the shower wand pops right off. Simple maintenance items that in a properly looked-after hotel should never happen.

The bar was mostly abandoned, one had to search out someone to deliver a drink. If you're going to have a bar, at least have a convenient way of summoning someone to tend it. The restaurant is far too pricey - with the numerous options nearby there is really no reason to dine at the hotel. There is a quiet inner courtyard with tables and chairs to sit on a nice evening.

I would recommend this hotel primarily for the location and the service. Try to get a room away from the river side where the bars are!

Room Tip: Try to stay on the Judengasse side of the hotel for more peace and quiet

While in Salzburg, this is the hotel to be in. Wow! Does it have character and history? We loved it. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable especially the bed. Made our vacation just perfect.

The window in the room gave us a nice view of the river. We could sit on the window sill and sip our cup of tea every morning. The bathroom too was clean and comfortable and despite the age of the hotel, all amenities and equipment worked perfectly well.

The staff was fluent in English and very helpful. They gave us perfect advice on the tours, restaurants, locations etc. The best thing about this hotel is that it opens up straight on to the old town. As you come out, you are in the midst of it all. Every spot worth visiting in Salzburg is within walkable distance of the hotel.

Lovely hotel in old town of Salzburg. Nice room and bathroom and perfect wifi. Great location for absolutely everything. Only problem if you need to get a taxi outside of the train station let them know it is in the old town as there are tow Radisson Blue hotels in Salzburg.

This hotel is ideally located and whilst we would stay there again - it really needs at least one or even 2 stars knocking off. The shower was a pain - the ones that sit in a cradle above the taps and when you put it in the overhead position - it slips and washes the wall. I did mention this and was kindly offered another room. The view from room 414 is non existent but - the peace and quiet meant a great nights sleep. The biggest problem was the lack of atmosphere - the bar is never manned so you get the concierge or the duty manager either finding someone to serve you or they serve you - nobody apart from us were in the bar - mainly because it doesn't ever look open. The restauraunt was fab but again we were the only guests - which is a great shame. No coffee or tea in rooms which is apparently traditional in Austria but again in a 5 start hotel I would have expected that. Room was huge and plenty of room for extra bed. All in all, think if you went expecting a 3 star you would be really happy. And as it was only a few steps away from Mozarts birthplace - it made up for the small problems we encountered.

Room Tip: Stay on 4th floor as its lovely and quitest but ask for a room with a view otherwise your room if on...

This hotel is located in a very old building in the heart of the old town. It's quaint with lots of character. Beautiful old furnishings and décor.
The staff was friendly, pleasant and helpful.
Our room was spotlessly clean but a little dark because it had only a small window. Our beds (two singles pushed together) were comfortable.
This hotel is advertised as 5 star. Not in my view. Great if you get it at the right price. We had breakfast in the restaurant on our first morning. The restaurant was beautiful but the breakfast was pricey at 26 euro each.

Very nice hotel and you can not fault the location which is as central as you can get

We stayed in room 309 which was massive.

Only negative is the parking as there is none with the hotel and nearest facilities are 5 minutes walk away and cost 20 euro for 24 hours.
