We were only staying one night because of our tightly-scheduled tour of Bavaria and the Black Forest, but, as soon as we entered this room, I wanted to stay here the entire trip.
We booked this hotel online with points and were upgraded to an exceptional suite (room 22). Even if we had paid for it, it would've been well worth it. For my money, I would've asked for the suite. Better to splurge and get the dream rather than miss it by a few dollars.
The suite had a small foyer, living room, huge bathroom, and a separate bedroom that was one step up from the main floor with its own office niche. The view was into the courtyard, but that was the only drawback. I marked this as plush, but that doesn't quite capture the essence of this luxury hotel. It had an aura of aristocracy without any smugness. The bathroom was so perfectly appointed that I was actually enticed to take a bath - a rarity in hotels for sure. On one side of the old townhouse is the main entrance with the reception area. On the opposite side is the door that opens to the old narrow shop-lined streets of Salzburg. This is the way you will be going in and out of the hotel. If you walk out and go to the right, it's a very short distance to Mozart's birthplace.
If you are having your car parked (valet only), drive right up to the front of the hotel. It looks as though you can't because the main roads fork. We drove around for a little while looking for a place to park the car temporarily until we realized we could just drop it off out front. The staff was extremely accommodating. We checked out a tad late, left our bags and car, and walked around the city for most of the day. The staff continued to treat us as honored guests long after check-out.
Be sure to use the elevators when toting the luggage to and from the room.
