“Very comfortable and good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2013

As in other reviews, it is worth noting that this is effectively a budget hotel rather than a hostel. As such, it represents very good value. It is a fair way out of the city centre, but is quite easy to get to as it is a short walk from the Sterneckstrasse stop on the no. 2 bus route.

It is a little let down by the length you sometimes need to wait to be served at reception, as there are only one or two staff to serve any arrivals/departures/requests for info, as well as to man the bar. I also experienced difficulty accessing the internet from our room, despite the fact that wi-fi is supposed to be accessible throughout the building, and you are even provided with a second username and password to access the system from your room.

That apart, our experience of the hotel was very positive. It is a welcoming environment, the staff are very helpful, the room was spacious and clean, complete with an en suite shower room, and the view from our room was spectacular. The rooms are also air-conditioned, which was a nice (but necessary) surprise, but the large windows also open. For the standard of accommodation it was also extremely good value.

Another bonus was that the hotel is also just along the road from the Brauhaus Furbergs, which I would definitely recommend you take the opportunity to visit.

Room Tip: The higher rooms on the road side of the building have a wonderful view.

Am a big fan of the Meininger chain, with many being in good locations throughout Germany and one in London.

Location wise this is not the best choice in terms of access to the city centre, as compared to previous visits to the city you need to get a bus to get into the centre of town.

Although the room itself was pleasant enough, cleanliness was definitely an issue, a theme reflected through other parts of the property also.

There are definitely more central and better value options in Salzburg for me.

I found Meininger on Hostel World, so naturally I assumed it was a hostel. It is actually a hotel that has dorm like rooms. The hotel is VERY clean, which was a bonus. The only down side is breakfast is about 6 Euro and is all cold. I didn't opt for breakfast, but it wouldn't be a bad option. My only complaint is the WiFi is less than desirable. Each WiFi access code lasts only 6 hours, so you have to continuously go back for a new code. The location was also pretty good. Was about a 20 min walk to the Altstadt, but was quite a pleasant walk. Staff was relatively friendly, but nothing spectacular. When we arrived at the hotel at 5am from an all night train they let us crash in the lobby for nearly 3 hours (since check-in wasn't till 3pm). That was very much appreciated!

Room Tip: I stayed in the 4 person room and it has an amazing view and private bathroom!

We stayed here for four nights in a 9 person shared bed dorm. I've stayed in my fair share of hostels so have a reasonable idea of what to expect. Upon walking into the lobby I had high hopes. It's a trendy place that's kept pretty clean. The staff was helpful and we were on our way up to our room. Unfortunately, our room experience was not quite what we were expecting. The room was extremely stuffy and as a result quite smelly (this could be in part to some of it's inhabitants) but it didn't make for a very comfortable sleeping experience. What's worse is that there was one shower stall and one toilet for all nine people. This was somewhat of a nightmare as there was no alternative options in the building. Additionally, there was only one washer/dryer for the entire place meaning there was absolutely no chance to get any laundry done. Likewise, the kitchen was the size of a postage stamp with room for no more than two or three people, meaning cooking meals was virtually impossible. To summarize, this is NOT a hostel, but rather a hotel that has met the very minimum requirements to call itself a "hostel." There is not a social atmosphere, or the ammenities expected from a hostel.

We had a family room with 1 double bed and 4 single beds in a bunk bed style. Nice set up with plenty of space. There was a separate shower/sink and toilet room which allowed for all of us get ready at the same time. Down side is that the floors were dirty and there was dirt build up around the corner of the rooms. There was also hair in the shower. The front desk was always super busy so it was hard to get information or directions but a little patience seemed to pay off. They recommended the Urban Keller restaurant down the street which was really good food and close. The waiter was super busy and forgot to give us our credit card back. The down side to that was they were closed the next day and didn't open til 3pm the following day...so we had to wait to check to see if they had our card. Very nerve racking! To get WiFi you had to pick up a ticket at the front desk. One ticket per device and only good for 6 hours. Basically, with todays information age we had 4 different ticket each time we wanted access. There is a McDonalds down the street. They had breakfast there but we brought our own food. They have a kitchen area that you can heat up food if you would like. The hotel isn't close to old town and you will have to tae a bus or drive. There is a parking garage but we had a Thule storage on our vehicle and were able to park out front which was nice. The elevator was broke the 1st few days and climbing 4 floors was rough with a 2 year old but once they fixed it..life was easy then. :)

Room Tip: Beds were to hard for my comfort level.

Meininger Hotel Salzburg City Center is not quite in the city centre. It is a couple of minutes away by bus. But the bus stop is right outside the hotel so thats quite convenient. Bus # 2,4,10 give easy access to the city centre. We had a room on the top floor. It was quite nice and clean with a balcony. Had lovely views of the hills from the room. Amazing value for money. So thats the best part. The wifi was free and the network quite good. We did not opt for the breakfast so can not comment. We stayed here in May2013 for 4 nights and the stay was very comfortable. The staff is quite friendly. Couple of supermarkets are very close by. As a first time tourist I will recommend buying the salzburg card as that gives access to most of the sights for free and also free transportation within the city.

Room Tip: try and get the room on the top floor. Has lovely views

We stayed only for a night. The rooms were comfortable room. There is a self service kitchen available which we really liked. There is ample parking available. The hotel is slightly away from the downtown, so we had to walk quite a bit but on the good side, we got to see the beautiful city of Salzburg at night. Great stay overall!
