“Hotel staff not professional, rooms average, very basic”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2012

I was in Salzburg just last WE with my sister and her boyfriend. We booked a triple and as I work in Hotel myself I know it is usually better to contact the Hotel directly for a better price and service. This is not what's happened with the Meininger. I was told to book the special offer online and they could not give me any discount directly ( so...for them it was better paying 20% commission to booking.com but not giving me any discount???)
Not to mention that to find out what price could they give me it took 4 emails!!!
Once in Salzburg I called to inform them that we were arriving very late and they couldn't find the reservation ( they found it after 10minutes!), upon check in they hold us another 10min for the same reason!
Upon check out, same story...gosh!
Room was basic, bathroom clean but a lot of dust was underneath the bed!
Be aware that although Salzburg is very small this Hotel is not walking distance to the centre and you need to take a bus. However if you buy the Salzburg card for €25 you have all museum and transport for 24h.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the hotel. I was travelling with my mom and 2 young kids. Kids below 6 were free and it was great value from my point of view. We all had a bed each and could be in the same room. Everything was very clean and working in perfect order. It was the 22nd Aug and pretty warm. Was a pleasure to go back after a long day out to an aircon room.

True that its no frills, but for the price, I would call it great value!! If you don't mind walking, its a 15 to 20mins walk to the town.

Surrounding location not attractive but it was raining so maybe we were biased. Nice Greek restaurant in the complex nearby. Room had two large round obstructive pillars but it was clean and adequate. Breakfast reasonable and able to take away rolls for the road and coffee in our flask.

Low value compared to price. Rooms are very basic and beds are not comfortable. (Several light bulbs were burnt, air conditioning did not work properly, towels were not changed, there is no safe in the room, wi-fi connection is provided for two hours per day per device only. Staff was Ok but not more.
Breakfast is very poor and basic. In addition they have a sign on the table urging you to assist in removing your plate after eating. (I do Not have a problem with this - but the price of the hotel is not exactly McDonalds...)
Bottom line I do NOT recommend staying in this overpriced hotel. It is more of a hostel rather than a hotel.

The rooms are with bunkbeds, so it is more hostel style. They forgot to make up a bed. They charge almost 6 euro for breakfast. The breakfast is absolutely not recommendable. The buffet is limited, and you have to bring your own plates on a trolley. Internet works with codes and is extremely unhandy. During the night quite noisy due to a fire station next to the hotel. The bathroom is clean. This hotel offers you a bed but is overpriced. Due to festspiele the price may be that high.

This is a well maintained City Hotel. The rooms are very clean with good bathrooms. The only weakness is that the air conditioning is not very effective. We found the reception staff to be really helpful and they also spoke very good English. Breakfast was excellent! Great choice of cereals, breads, meats, cheeses etc. The area surrounding the hotel is not the prettiest part of Salzburg, but the number 4 bus takes you to the centre in less than 10 minutes. I would say that this hotel is very good value for money.

A straightforward, clean and good place to stay in Salzburg. There is a great underground car park where I stored my motorbike, the breakfasts were superb VFM, with no limit to what you could eat. The WiFi was free in the bar and drinks were cheap. I have no complaints and would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a simple place to stay whilst in Salzburg.
