If you go to Salzburg you must see this "museum". Very interesting collection of airplanes and helicopters (including military examples of both) and race cars. I loved it! And it's free! :)
I went by car and it wasn't very far form city centre. There is free parking just in front.

“For enthusiasts only”

It is out of town but nearer to the airport. When we were there, there was a change of bus service. Suggest that you tell the bus driver where you want to go. The bus stop is some distance from the hangar so you would not know when to stop. When we got down, the bus driver was kind enough to point to us the building.

Inside the building, you are free to walk around the exhibits. So a treat for Red Bull's fan. Took lots of pictures.

“A Must-See if you believe Salzburg is just medieval - Red Bull at its best”
Reviewed December 23, 2012

It's amazing what an Austrian billionaire is contributing to his hometown. Hangar is actually the most understated name for this site ever. Originally planned to serve as the homebase for his historical aircraft (all aircraft able to airborne immediately btw.) this place includes not only a huge collection of planes and Helicopters but also acts as a showroom for many Red Bull sponsored racecars, contemporary art exhibitions, modern architecture, a fine café during the day, a cocktail bar for the evenings and a highly decorated restaurant.

The entrance is free btw. As long as you are not part of a larger group and reasonably dressed you will be admitted to enter this private gateway on the international airport of Salzburg. But check the homepage before as sometimes the place is booked for events or TV Shows.

For eating there you should be prepared to spend a fortune - book well ahead as seats are limited and sometimes fully booked for already the next month. Reason: The restaurant hosts the most famous chefs from all around the globe for each month! It's truely amazing! They turn down their business at home to come to Salzburg and serve their culinary creations for 4 weeks before they return home.

If you can't manage to eat there: Having breakfast in the café serves also the smaller budgets. And spending a relaxing evening at the cocktailbar let's you enjoy one of the finest cocktails you can find in Salzburg.

First thing is ITS FREE! And has a good restaurant and very posh toilets (worth a visit!)

Brilliant if you like wheels and engines.

“Not just for the boys.”
Reviewed December 12, 2012

I like to think I'm pretty typical of the female "species"... so if you are a woman, don't dismiss this uber cool experience as "one for the boys" . I believe a well balanced trip should include arts, culture, nature, good food and also the "unusual" experience. I found the hangar to satisfy three of these criteria. Firstly the architecture is super stylish, it's a pleasure just to be in this space, Ultra cool loungy/jazz music filled the glass canopy, there were some interesting sculptures both inside and out and it is definitely an unusual collection of any sleek sexy machines you could think of, from beautifully restored B25 Corsair to an attack helicopter, NY cab and formula cars to name a few. We had light refreshments at the cafe and on advice from Trip advisor I knew to visit the "powder room". Yes, you too must do it to complete the experience. It was super easy to get to the Hangar fro Salzburg by catching a bus number 2 from Mirrabell platz to Karalinger Strasse. If you have a couple of hours free, give it a try, it is different, you can go back to the sound of music stuff later.
