“It's all about The Sound of Music”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2013

This place is a great piece of history if you're a real Sound of Music buff .... what better place to stay in Salzburg than the home of the real Von Trapps? It's been well kitted-out with photos and memorabellia and so for us group of girls on the start of a Sound of Music hen weekend, this place was perfect. I certainly would not describe this place as value for money though. There were no tea/coffee making facilities and no shops close by. When we asked for tea the team were very quick to oblige, offering us cake as well ...... the rather steep charge on the bill the next day was a bit of a surprise! I was also very surprised that the room rate for a B&B did not include breakfast! It's also a fair way out of town making a cab ride the only real option when you first arrive although once you get your bearings there is a bus.

If you want the history then this place is ideal but as a B&B it's overpriced and pretty average.

I was a little bit suckered in by the write up on this place. And then when I went to check the prices there was 72% off the already ridiculous price of $600EU for 2 nights. So for $180EU I thought it was a bargain. Buuuut for me, someone with NO interest in the SOM it wasnt as 'luxurious' as I was expecting. A long way from the old town. I never mind having to walk tho so I didnt care about that. The gardens were OK, much nicer parks around though. Anyway it was an average stay, and thus the rating.

One important thing to consider if you arrive in Salzburg via rail station or airport. You will have to get a taxi to take you to villa trapp which is an estimate of 12€. This was such a nice experience staying over at the villa. The whole feel of the villa made a very good impression. They tried to make you feel at home. Breakfast is optional at 10€ per person. Breakfast is continental, nothing fancy. The cleanliness of the rooms were really not good. We had two rooms, both were very nice. There were smaller rooms with the toilette not in the room. Nice location. Just walk around the property to the Aigen Bahnhof (station). It is much cheaper to buy a 24 hour ticket than a one way. You can buy at the bus driver but it is cheaper at a kiosk. Very beautiful area. A small Billa Corso store is also located at the stop which is quite convenient.

If you loved the movie "The Sound of Music" and want an OMG experience, you have to stay here. Any negative reviews you see about this hotel are simply because the reviewer doesn't understand the draw of this property. If you are not a fan of the movie, then you will not appreciate the thrill of staying here. The accommodations are not lavish, but our stay was clean and comfortable and provided a sense of whimsy, all at a very affordable price. I'd stay here again without hesitation.

We were stopping in Salzburg for two days and we chose the Villa Trapp for our hotel. It is more like an upscale B&B--and we were thrilled with the entire stay. From the moment we arrived they made us welcome--provided suggestions, maps, and ideas for things to do. Marianne and the entire staff was wonderful!! They suggested a great fun restaraunt--Steinlechner on Aigner Strasse for a meal and it was great!! If you looking for the full hotel experience stay downtown--but if you are inmterested in the great B&B experience along with trhe Sound of Music history--this is the place to stay!!

The main reasons for booking here was the novelty of it being the real former home of the Von Trapp family, and the good price. And we were very happy with our choice. It's run by a lovely family who make it feel more like a B&B rather than a hotel, yet the rooms are well fitted and the service is great.
We had a car so it was an easy couple of minute drive to the centre of Salzburg, and made a great base for exploring the greater region outside of the city.

Room Tip: When booking make sure you pay attention to the room size as some can be on the smaller side.

We were excited to stay in at Villa Trapp during our trip to Salzburg. The property is well kept and a bit off the beaten path, which means you are will need to take public transportation or drive to the old town. We had a car so it was easy to get around.

Our room was a simple room upstairs. The bathroom was large for European B&B standards and the bed was comfortable. There was plenty of closet space for clothes. The breakfast was lovely and the dining room was nicely decorated. We liked the idea of eating with the other guests in the morning.

Overall this was a very good value and a unique opportunity to stay in the original Von Trapp home. One word of caution - this b&b is very, VERY quiet! It didn't matter what time of day, you could hear a pin drop. It was a bit eery at night when the house was dark, but we thought it was a cool experience. If you're looking for nightlife or even background noise, this isn't the place for you.

Tip: Ask the owners to tell you a bit about the property. It will make staying here a more enjoyable experience when you know the history!
