“Cute accommodation in suburban Salzburg”
Reviewed July 16, 2012

Loved this place! It's very new and the rooms are comfortable. We arrived in Salzburg earlier than check-in was available but the manager had our room cleaned first so we could check in properly. It's about a 20min bus ride from the train station and central Salzburg but it's only one bus and it was nice to be staying in a local neighbourhood. The only downside is that there aren't really a lot of restaurants to eat in the area, but there is a pretty good kitchenette!

Loved our stay at Ante Portas apartment. It is located in quite residential area about 20 minutes by bus from main train station and 10 minutes by bus from city. One can buy whole day bus ticket for 4.80 Eur. We reached quite late at apartment but the Hotel Manager Sabine had provided all the information in booklet( which bus to take to reach city , where is grocery store , and even time tables of bus which really helped us ) Thanks Sabine for such a nice hospitality. Even she has provided sugar and coffee in apartment room which very few apartments provide and lot of towels for our stay of 4 nights. It was a lovely room at a lovely price.

Thank You Sabine for making our stay memorable and pleasurable.

Me and my wife stayed to Ante Ports 2 nights during October 2011.
The hotel is not so close to the center of the old town but it is connected with bus very frequently (every 10-15 minutes). You can walk of course, but it will take you approx. 25 minutes to reach the center.
The appartments are very clean, quite spacious and very well designed.
We had no issues with our stay whatsoever.
Hotel also owns a private garage (in case that you have a car) which is very helpful since parking in Salzburg is a nightmare.
We were very please by the girls in the reception which were friendly and very helpful.
They spend quite a lot of time to explain to us how to move around to the town and which places to visit such as museums, sites and restaurants. Things very important to someone that visits for a first time a place.

Ante Portas interiors is Ikea world - if you know Ikea, you'll know how the room and furnishings look like. The room we stayed in had a big double bed, clean, simple, spacious. Bathroom was clean and roomy, had a shower. Kitchenette was just as you enter the door. It had a small refrigerator, a coffee pot (with coffee and sugar available if you wish to have some), a stove and a microwave oven. It's also fully equipped. But you'll need to buy your own paper towels if you're planning to use the kitchenette as you're expected to clean up before you leave.

It's an apartel, so no daily cleaning or change of towels. It didn't really matter to us, since we just stayed for 2 nights.

Good selection of TV channels, but we didn't really have time to watch TV. Salzburg (zentrum and nearby St. Gilgen, Wolfgangsee, Mondsee, etc) is just too nice to be spending time in the room.

Location is great. It's about 10 minutes outside the zentrum but it's great if you have a car. They have onsite parking. Bus #4 to the city center is just 1 minute walk away and frequency every 10 minutes and you don't need to transfer. So it's really very convenient. There is a nearby grocery and cafe/bakery which closes at 7pm. There is also a deli but I'm not sure of opening hours since it was closed when we passed it at around 6pm. There are also some restaurants nearby.

Reception was friendly. We met both the proprietress (I'm assuming she is or if she's not, then she must be the manager) and her colleague. Instructions left for us for check-in were very clear and accurate. Office hours are just from 8:30am to 1pm apparently.

They offer arrangement of tours. We got the Original Sound of Music Tour (includes South of Music sites as well as overview of the city) through them. They can also get you a Salzburg card or similar. You don't need to go to the city to get them.

Free parking in their private lot is possible but in reality, you can only park around 5-6 cars. We had to double park. One negative is that they need to create a better process esp if cars are double parked. We were asked by the front desk to park in one of the spots that later ended up inconveniencing another guest since they assumed he wasn't going to use his car during the day, and we were out the entire day. They encourage guests to leave their cars and take the bus to the center because it is difficult to park in the zentrum and also require you to obtain a pass. So it is extremely important that they create a process for guests who have confirmed to leave their cars and for guests who may decide to take their car out for a drive while staying there. If the guy turned out to the checking out, then it would have been a disaster. And they didn't even know who the owner of the car is as we don't register our plates.

Room Tip: If you're particular about noise, then ask for a room at the back. If you hate stairs or have a...

We stayed in Ante Portas for three nights in August. It has got stylish decoration. The windows are dressed up with beautiful real flowers. We need to slightly open the window because there is no air-conditioner in the room. Yet as our room is near the main road, we could hear vehicles passing by in the day time as well as at night from time to time. Grateful it didn't affect me too much as I could asleep easily after my full day's travelling.

It is about 15 minutes away from central train station by bus. Moreover, it only takes 5 minutes' walk to the supermarket. Since it is located in the residential area, it is pretty quiet at night. We enjoyed strolling around the nearby streets after dinner. There are a couple of restaurants / bars within 10 minutes' walk.

Be prepared to carry your luggage up to at least one flight of steps as there is no elevator in the apartment. The front desk opens from 8:30am till 1:00pm. We were glad that it was still open when we reached there at late afternoon. We met two front desk staff. Both are friendly and can speak very good English.
