I am a big fan of Austrian Alps: we go there 4-5 times a year. Have been to Obertauern a few times before, but this was my 1st time in Hotel Steiner. We were a loud group of 14 men who had our annual training camp/ competition. Hotel was surprising tolerant and helpful. I liked the attitude of staff, and, I believe, it comes straight from right mindset by owners.
There was a very weak wi-fi in our corner suite. When I asked, it was fixed immediately. Reception switched my walkie-talkie batteries, etc. Small things that make life better.
Hotel has prolonged lunch, not just great breakfast and extensive dinner. It is very convenient for 2 training sessions a day. You go out with first lifts at 8:45, come for lunch around 12:30 and go back to 2nd training until 16:00.
Rooms might not be the biggest, but there are personalized ski lockers downstairs.
I was so satisfied with Hotel Steiner that we will come back again in March with kids for spring-break.

very good location, amazingly nice staff, nothing was ever a problem for them and overal experience with the spa area was just great.
the food in the restaurant was one of the best I have ever had.
Highly recommend this hotel to enhance the travel and ski experience of the beautiful Obertauern

Room Tip: ask for the rooms where the room numbers are higher than 30, e.g. 130, 230,.... but all of them are good :)

This hotel is in the Austrian Alps, and we have been here (and loved it) several times for skiing in the winter, so we knew it would be the perfect place to start our summer honeymoon - something familiar but also something new.

The hotel is family owned and run, and the Steiners make you feel like you are being welcomed into their very grand home (the main staircase in particular is a thing of great beauty, with communal areas with cosy sofas on each landing). As we were on honeymoon, we particularly enjoyed the note in our room on arrival welcoming "Family Smart" to the hotel from "Family Steiner".

It was perfect for a holiday where we were trying to detox all of the wedding stress - everything was right at our fingertips and so easy and lovely.

All meals are included in the price, and the kitchen is open from earlier in the morning than there was even half a hope that we would be up until 10pm. I enjoyed the little newsletter each morning with charmingly mangled (but still understandable) English informing us of the weather and guided walks/spa sessions that were available, as well as the menu for the evening meal. The five course dinner every evening was a definite highlight of each day!

The spa area was of varying amusement/enjoyment. Neither my husband nor I could quite see the point of the "Temple of Lights" (a room with no windows, many sun loungers, and some uplighting around the walls), but we definitely made much use of the saunas and the beautifully decorated pool, jacuzzi and sun lounger area with the floor to ceiling view of the mountains.

There are walks of varying levels of difficulty available around the hotel, and we enjoyed the two or three that we did, particularly the views, but we found that (given the stress-detoxing nature of the holiday) we didn't actually want to leave the hotel that much and the views from inside the hotel were almost as good as the views from the top of the mountain.

All in all, the Steiners pay remarkably close attention to detail on food, service and furnishings. We definitely hope to be back sometime in the not too distant future!

Overall this is in the top 3 hotels we have stayed in on a ski holiday.
This includes hotels in Canada, the US and lots of Europe.
We enjoyed our stay at Christmas 2012 so much we have booked again for 2013.
Very good for access to the slopes (for skiers- beginners may have to go a bit further into town)
a 50 yard walk across and on the piste down to 2 of the main lifts

Our room at the back was pleasant and clean but we were rarely in it. The hotel has lots of areas to relax in without having to stare at 4 walls in your room. The Spa area and pool were very busy with kids etc but still enjoyable. A relaxation room with rocking chair/beds with good views over to the piste/mountains was a very comfortable place to spend an hour reading.
Food is excellent especially for my wife who doesn't eat a lot of meat, the vegetarian dinner option was always good even if the description didn't do them justice.
All the staff were friendly and helpful - it was a busy time but we had no problems with service.
Some fun bars up in town for après ski just a 10 -15 minute walk.

A great place for us to spend Christmas

We make our best congratulations to Steiner family and all the staff. They promise to spoil you with everything you need and it'clearly true.
We planned to stay in Obertauern as we'd like to visit mountain but Salzburg and neighboor too. It's a nice location to do that.
Steiner hotel is very nice (not so famous as in winter) in summer too. It would be a plus to have more "life" in summer as it's in winter (but it's not Steiner's fault at all, they rather try to do all their best to give you full services, i.e. Sunday barbecue, cable cars tickets, etc.).

In a word: excellent!
