I stayed here for one night while on a cycling trip with my wife in August. Our intention was originally to cross the alps from here and end our 1000km trip in Venice, however the experience in Villach was so demotivating for us both that we decided to take the train home. The hotel itself is modern for 1970s standards. It is clean, the staff are friendly, but the room decor is so dreary, drab and dark, I couldn't really recommend this place lowly enough. Cyclists get the pleasure of putting their bikes in a small garage which remains unlocked. I looked at a couple of rooms including the inevitable one right next to the elevator, and the one overlooking the busy road. I plumped for the one right next to the elevator overlooking the interior courtyard. It was actually quite quiet, considering the location (right in the city center). The hotel has no amenities like a sauna, gym or pool which is ok for that rate.
The breakfast was very good, no plastic wrapped portions of butter, and marmelade in this hotel. Fresh rolls, excellent coffee, competent and friendly service. In fact the restaurant attached to the hotel seems to me to be one of the best places in town to eat. Be wary though that smokers are allowed to pollute the air with their selfish habit in the next room. One day later on looking around Villach I noticed there was a Holiday Inn across the river for 30EUR extra per night.. what a world of difference! Let's be fair though, this is a 100EUR/night B and B for two people, it's ok, but there are better hotels in Villach for not much more money.

MrReaves and I drove up to Villach on a long weekend to spend the night and then explore the surrounding areas. We drove around the city on a rainy, miserable Saturday afternoon, and decided to stop at a car park to search for rooms. The Goldenes Lamm was on the corner, so we went in and liked what we saw.

We paid 100Euro for a double room w/ breakfast and parking.

The hotel has parking on site, but be warned, drivers of SUVs and large vehicles: the parking area is small. We were worried about fitting our VW Polo in there, but the Blueberry fit in a space directly beside the door that leads to reception.
The two receptionists on duty were wonderful. My husband and I speak quite a bit of Deutsch, but they conversed in English to make us more comfortable. Thank you, ladies!
Our room was on the first floor. The room itself was very large by most hotel standards. There was a desk with hotel information and a TV that was sort of old, but we never turned it on, so it was a non-factor. The bathroom was sort of out-dated as well, but it was very spacious and very clean and well stocked. They provided extra amenities such as emory boards and shower caps. Nice touch! The beds were firm but very clean, and we slept quite nicely. We did hear other hotel guests in their rooms, but it didn't really bother either of us.
The hotel is located on a one-way street on the corner of a pedestrian area across the Drau from the train station via a walking bridge. We were there on a Saturday around 1800--just in time for all of the shops to be closing up. Maybe it was our perception, but there didn't seem to be anything to do in that area after 1800 on Saturday. Luckily, the street immediately across from the entrance of the hotel houses the bars and cafes. Now, I'm not a big drinker, but the Irish Pub on that street was the place where we hung out most of the evening. The bartender was awesome! He spoke English (much better than he wanted to admit), and we chatted him up for quite some time. When we asked for a recommendation for a restaurant for later on or for the next day, the first place he said was "the restaurant at the Goldenes Lamm is good!".
We ate breakfast there the next morning, and there weren't many other patrons there which was a good thing because the breakfast spread looked huge at first, but then we noticed that there really wasn't much other than breads and cereals. They had a variety of fruits, but almost all of it that I ate was not that great. The meats and cheeses were virtually empty, and my husband said that his cereal seemed stale. For our experience, we probably would have been better off visiting the McDonald's that is right outside the lobby in the shopping area.
Overall, we enjoyed our experience at this hotel. I wish that it hadn't rained so that we could have explored the town a little better. It seems really lovely!

We got stuck in Villach after a late train caused us to miss our connection. After checking a few hotels in the area, we settled on an air-conditioned room at the very centrally-located Goldenes Lamm for about 100EURO excluding breakfast. The room was spotless, appeared to be brand new, had a great air conditioning unit, good shower, and comfortable bed. The room also included free Wi-Fi and a flat screen television. We also ate at the restaurant, which had good and reasonably priced food. I would highly recommend this hotel. I've only given one other hotel a 5-star rating, but this one is deserving of it.
