“new price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2013

Just a little update on price: now you have to pay the entry fee per car, not per person. The muber of person is maximalized, but 15 EUR is the price for one car. That is great. I still love this mountain. We always make a walking tour from the top parking place to the top of the mountain, which is about 4 hours (up and down). Tolilet is always available at the restaurant however it is not always open.

“Alpengarten Villacher Alpe”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2013

This is a wonderful small botanical garden. We spent about 3 hours there and could have spent more (but it was a long travel day, so our time was limited). Great variety of plants, very well kept. In early July, the lady slipper orchids were just going over, but the lilies were at the peak of bloom. Many of the early spring plants had been hit hard by the recent heat wave (36C for a couple of days in Villach), but there was still lots to enjoy. Everything well labelled.

Admission is a mere EUR2.50 per person (in addition to the road toll).

Before our visit, we had wondered about the size of the garden, because their website doesn't have a garden map. The garden turned out to be larger than we thought. So one of the pix I've uploaded is a snapshot of the map signboard in the garden.

“Wonderful view across Carinthia”

Nice mountain toll road, can be even done by bicycle. A lot of parking places along the way, most recommended is the "Rote Wand" viewpoint which features a skywalk over a red cliff. Be sure to take the hike from the Rosstratten to the Dobratsch summit and visit the Gipfelhaus. It will take 1 1/2 hours to hike, and the views are more than stunning.

“Nice road”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

If you visit Villach, do not forget to go on this road. It is a toll road only from 16 April to 15 October, the rest of the year is free. As you go up the road, is a very good idea to stop in every parking and to see the surroundings. From some parking lots you have to go on a walk way under the road, on the other part of it. Every parking has a nice panorama view. When you get at the end of the road, you have a nice view of the Alps from three countries: Austria, Slovenia and Italy. If you like hiking, you can hike to the top of Dobratsch, the second high peak in Carinthia.
