“A must if you are visiting Villach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2012 via mobile

The Villacher Alpenstrasse is a must if you are visiting Villach area. Ideally you are going there on a day without clouds of course. Due to the many different parking opportunities throughout the 16.5km uphill road you will get the opportunity to look to the Julian Alps as well as Villach, the Karawanken Alps and of course also towards the Tauern. The toll is 14 EUR for a car, a little less for bikes. After the toll station there is no petrol station so make sure you have enough fuel for 33km, 16.5km per direction. Yes, you will come back the same street. There are at least two major restaurants open, plus a nice Alp Garden (only open June to August though).

“20 min of good view”

Stop at P2 where local couples use to hang out. You have an excellent view over Villach. Also the "Julian View" is an interesting spot to look at surrounding mountains.

“Motorbike heaven in Alpenstrasse”

Verry nice routes. A lot of bikers riding around. It was like a special area designed only for motorbikes.

“can be visited all year long”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2012

The Alpenstrasse is always a good target. Between 15.11-15.04. the entry is free. In March the restaurants were open, and since there was still snow, poeple used sled and ski to slide down. As it is part of the Naturpark Dobratsch- http://www.naturparkdobratsch.info-, we can find always something new. I'm sure we will come here regularly.

I have found safety boxes at the top parking place, toilet can be found at restaurants. I haven't seen normal shop to by drink and food, so better to take with you, but 2 restaurant is usually available.

“great place for a trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2011

Villacher Alpenstrasse is close to Villach (Austria, Kärnten). This is a panorama road, you have to pay the fee at the entry, go up with your car. You will give you a map of the area, which shows where to stop, what to do, where are toilets and restaurants. They have many stop, where people can admire the view. We went to the top carpark, there is a restaurant, and from there people go on foot to the top of the mountain. The level of the trip (how hard is it) deepends on your fitness. Good shoes needed because the rocky ground. I recommend to spend here minimum 2-3 hours, but more can be spent. The area is beautiful, the air is just so fresh. Take your drink with you (water :-).
