We recently stayed at the Hotel Atrigon for an international fencing tournament. Though it sounds crazy, my husband has been unsuccessfully looking for a spaetzel press for YEARS in the US. I thought Austria--great! Easy Xmas gift! I asked the very helpful desk clerk to suggest a store, but then informed us that friday, our single free day, was a national holiday and that ALL shops would be closed. She suggested that we try Saturday, but that was the first, and longest day of the competition. She VOLUNTEERED to go get me one on her day off with her own money and leave it at the desk. If I didn't like it, she'd return it. Apparently there's another more inexpensive tool to make spaetzel she explained, but she seconded using a press. She got it, I paid for it, and it was PERFECT! Christmas is saved!
How many people would do this? She didn't know me from a hole in the wall yet spent her own money and free time to help me out. Amazing.
Now for the hotel. Nice rooms, a bit larger than the European average. Awesome breakfast in a beautiful setting, and soooo close to the venue for fencing that walking in the October snow was no problem. Close to the train station grocery and very easily walkable to downtown (if only to peer in closed store windows). If next year's competition is held there, we'll stay again.
