Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: Among the 21 departments and institutions of the Joanneum Universal Museum, founded as the Joanneum in 1811, the Armoury is in a class of its own. Attracting around 55,000 visitors annually, it is the Joanneum's most-visited institution without an exhibitions role. Moreover, as the largest historic armoury in the world, it is a living memorial to a chequered, conflict-ridden past, whose bogeymen and prejudices are still with us.

“Impressive but repetitive”
Reviewed July 15, 2012

The collection was impressive in scale, but everything started to look like everything else very rapidly. None of the items were labelled, so the visit might have been much better as part of a guided tour.

“An amazing collection”
Reviewed June 26, 2012

Im a girl but still enjoied as the size of this collectio is breath taking. On 4 floors there are tausends of pieces you can observe. From some of the floors there is the view on the courtyard of the Landeszeughaus which is as well very nice to see from this perspective. I would say it is a one time in a life chance to see something like this and it is worth to visit.

“Way too cool!”
Reviewed May 18, 2012

4 floors of armor from the 15th century. Great for kids and kids at heart. Definitely do the audio tour, it is a must. You will encounter rows and rows of weapons and armor. Makes you marvel on how armies were organized, equipped, and deployed in the past. Enjoy the educational adventure.

“Awesome history”
Reviewed April 24, 2012

Definitely listen to the audio guide when you visit. It completely turns the tour into an incredible walk through history. Otherwise it is little more than a bunch of old armor. A must-see in Graz.
