Owner description: The unique architecture of Schloss Eggenberg, the most important great house in Styria, is a complex symbolic representation of the universe. At the same time, with its impressive combination of Baroque interiors (magnificent state rooms), magical gardens and park, and priceless collections of the Universalmuseum Joanneum (Alte Galerie with its old masters paintings, Archaeology Museum and Coin Cabinet), Eggenberg contains a fascinatingly varied panorama of Styrian culture over the centuries.UNESCO World Heritage Site!

“Pretty but not amazing”
Reviewed August 25, 2012

The palace is set in a huge and peaceful park with gardens and peacocks (which unfortunately have had most of their tail feathers pulled out). The palace is nice though not amazing and it was not clear upon entry that you had to pay an additional fee to enter the museums inside.

“Outside the old city but well worth a visit”
Reviewed August 14, 2012

Schloss Eggenberg is well worth a visit for several reasons. First, it houses the Alte Galerie with a terrific and well-designed exhibit of medieval and renaissance art, The explanations are in English and German and the thematic design of the exhibit is highly effective and informative. Second, a visit (available via guided tour only) to the state rooms is a must. The interiors are preserved in the their original state (no electricity and candles in the chandeliers) with magnificent Baroque and Rococo designs and art, full of symbolic meaning about the universe, time, and the seasons. And, third, the gardens are well-groomed and beautiful, and have roaming peacocks as an extra perk.

“Surprisingly interesting”
Reviewed August 12, 2012

Good time to visit in the warmer months, you can stroll though the grounds, watching the peacocks at their display.
Join a tour to see the rooms on thefirst floor, and ....
Well, way more to see there than I thought, as it is just a small castle in styria!

“Tiny Palace”
Reviewed August 9, 2012

We visited this palace in summer. The garden is much bigger than the palace itself.
The roses garden is nice, and we just strolled around and enjoyed the green grass.
Also, there is the archeological museum, pretty boring for me...
Whoever been to Schonbrunn in Vienna - there is nothing to compare, but if you're already in Graz, why not.

this is a must-see spot if it is your first time to Graz. Very easy to access by public transport. Don't miss the guided tour that are in German or in English. Disappointed that there is no English description in the coin museum.

The entrance fee of the Park leading to the Palace is EUR2 and the entrance fee for the Palace is EUR6. But, if you pay EUR 9, you can visit four more key museums in the old town of Graz in the same day. Entrance fee for each of this museum is EUR8. Thus, EUR11 for the day-pass is definitely a very good deal. Just need to do a little bit of planning, you definitely can visit at least 4 museums in a day.
