We stayed in Graz one night on Feb 6th. The hotel is quite large but has a quirky vintage feel which we loved. Lots of stairs and hallways. Check-in was simple and effortless. Staff at the front desk were courteous and friendly. We were given an ACTUAL KEY (you don't see that anymore these days) to our room. It was kind of amusing and it reminded us of Overlook Hotel in the movie The Shining in a charming way:)
Our room was very spacious #27(would of loved to stay longer).
The bathroom although it had double sinks felt a bit tight if two people stood in it simultaneously. Also the glass in the tub didn't come out far enough causing water to spray on the counter and floor. But not a big deal.
The room was spotlessly clean. We loved all the art work that peppered the hallways and room. It gave the hotel an extra je ne sais quoi.. Would of loved to stay longer and would go back .

Dear aeroplano,

Thank you for taking your time to write us this wonderful review. The Schlossberghotel - Das Kunsthotel is unique indeed. The mix of the modern artworks and the antique furniture creates an atmosphere that can't be found in many places. The 16th century building, with it's staircases and hallways, of course, contributes to this special charm.
Having actual keys, definitely is a rare sight, but we love it! It brings us closer to our guests and we can give recommendations and advice on the beautiful city of Graz.
We have never heard the comparison with the Overlook Hotel, but we understand what you mean with this. But no worries, there is no room 217 in the Schlossberghotel - Das Kunsthotel.
It would be a great pleasure for us, to welcome you back to our beautiful city and of course, to our hotel!

With kind regards,

Your Schlossberghotel - Team

We enjoyed everything about our visit to Graz before Christmas and this hotel was one of the delightful discoveries. The staff were all welcoming and helpful and fluent in English. We enjoyed drinks in the lounge several times and the very excellent breakfast each morning.

We had a large comfortable room at the front of the hotel, with a seating area. The decor is a lively mix of contemporary art and vintage furnishings, more attractive I thought than the photos on their website suggested. The hotel is something of the rabbit warren type with many rooms tucked into nooks and up/down small staircases. If you have any mobility issues it would be good to let staff know when making your reservation.

The hotel is located at the edge of the town center along the river. A minutes' walk brings you to the steps up the schloss to the clock tower and a few more to the main streets and sights of the city. It's a short direct cab ride to the train station.

Room tip: Many rooms are accessed by small sets of stairs. Let staff know if you have mobility limitations.

Dear Miriam G,

Thank you for your wonderful and detailed review of your recent stay with us!

The Schlossberghotel - Das Kunsthotel definitely is a unique and idiosyncratic place. It consist of three buildings that have been joined to this wonderful hotel in the past centuries. The buildings are from the 16th century and once hosted the Imperial and Royal carpentry of Graz - so there is a lot of history to be found. The interior is a combination of precious antiques and original modern art work that creates a unique ambiance.

Due to these many staircases, we are unfortunately not barrier free. We provide rooms with wider doors & showers that are also suitable for wheelchairs. There will always be that one step at the main doors - we do not have a ramp, but are happy to assist. But as you say - we would appreciate a small note in advance so we can chose the perfect room for our guests.

We would be delighted to welcome you back to Graz and of course to Schlossberghotel - Das Kunsthotel.

With kind regards,

Your Schlossberghotel - Team

Situated about a 5 minute walk from the centre and a 20 minute walk from the train station, this is a lovely hotel. We had a great room(52),large and with a comfortable bed.
The staff could not have been more helpful.
The hotel is nicely decorated with modern art, which, of course, may not be to everyone's taste!
Good breakfast, if expensive.

i was looking for a quiet room.

what i got was:

- a noisy, small room (unlike the ones in the „official“ pictures) without a view.

- at night, curtains MUST be closed because of the lights of outside (viz the alley, so they cannot be turned off). in a small room this makes claustrophobia worse.

- lying in bed, you will hear all kind of neighbour noises, such as bathroom flushing, people walking around and moving chairs. sleep is thus only possible if the neighbors are sleeping, too.

- to escape claustrophobia, you can sit in the uncosy lobby. i have not seen any guests hanging around.

in sum: don’t. not worth the money. cannot even be compensated with cleanliness and unnatural staff friendliness.

Dear Excursion06584118485,

Thank you for taking your time to review your stay with us at the Schlossberghotel - Das Kunsthotel.

We are very sorry, you did not feel comfortable in our hotel. We are convinced that friendliness and hospitality are the nuts and bolts of hospitality industry. Greeting our guests and asking for their well being is also part of good manners and all of our staff members practice these pleasantries also in their every day live. We are sorry you think this friendliness is "unnatural".

Our comfortable hotel bar and lobby area is usually well visited. Especially at night or on rainy days our guests like to enjoy a warming beverage or a glass of wine. We would have been pleased, to serve you a drink, so could have soaked in the atmosphere yourself.

Also, we want to apologize that you felt claustrophobic in the double room for single use that we assigned to you. We really thought the free upgrade from a single room would be appreciated.
The room is located to one of our inner courtyards, and not to an alley or the street, as you asked for a quiet room. We are sorry that you still heard sounds coming from neighbouring rooms. It would have been helpful to let us know that you are not satisfied with the room we chose. If we know this, we can react immediately and show you alternatives. We did not get the chance to improve wich made you and us both unhappy and did not solve anything.

We hope you will find another hotel in the beautiful city of Graz. Unfortunately we can't meet your expectations.

Yours sincerely,

Anna Schlomann
Front Office Manager
