The Starke-Häuschen is a nice little place on the Grazer Schlossberg with a large garden and balcony offering a wonderful view all over the city. I never ate there - as the prices are comparatively high - but it's a wonderful place to have a drink and enjoy the view. I specially recommend to go there in early fall when they still serve "Sturm" (cider) and the leaves are turning colorful - it's simply wonderful!

Foreword of warning: after reading other reviews I had very high expectations for the place! It is very well located, but on that specific evening we were relocated inside due to a small rain storm. There are a few windows inside, but (1) we were not seated by one (2) they were extremely small, so we didn't get any of the view. I am not sure how much you would see from the patio area, as there are quite a few trees in front. The restaurant is extremely small, but due to the rain was only 2/3 full (which means 5 tables). Unfortunately it was very hot inside - no AC. We were told to book at 8.30, as 9pm would be too late for the kitchen, and despite this were told that it was too late for the 6 courses menu. Another disappointment came with the bill, as we were charged extra for a bread refill... (you already pay 3 euros per person for cover charge, charging us an extra 3 euros for 4 tiny bread rolls was not necessary in my opinion) The food was good, but nothing exceptional - everything was tasty and very well cooked, but I had more traditional experience with similar quality at the Landhaus-Keller. We ended up paying 120 euros for two (with only one glass of wine as starter), which was slightly overpriced in my opinion. For example the cheese platter was half the size of the one at Landhaus-Keller, no jams (and no bread!) for the same price. The card is small (as is the kitchen), you have the choice between 2 of each (starter, entree, main, dessert) so may be tricky if you have picky eaters. We had aged beef, which was good, and char fish over risotto, which was very good too, but I could have eaten those at any somewhat upscale restaurant in any other country. In summary a decent evening, but I was looking for more of a styrian experience. The heat and the bill didn't help unfortunately.

Really a phantastic view while having a drink or eating some food.
But you pay for it - even normal tap water is charged (and quite expensive!)

Food is nice and well served, quite a good variety of drinks.

Hanging at the side of the Schlossberg in the center of the town like a climber, this historic place is not only a cafe but a restaurant with a very good kitchen. It is very import to make a reservation, because it is really small inside and outside.

This cafe has the best location on the Schlossberg and therefore its beautiful to stay there. Sadly they have too many tables on too less space and especially in summer times it can be crowded and the waiting time for a plain water or a coffee can took ages...
But because of the location, i would still recommend it!
