We arrived late in the afternoon and got a worm welcome. The receptionist tried his best to help with a problem we had. The town is beautiful and we got a room with the river's view. Breakfast was nice. We are sure to go there again if in the area.

Room Tip: Take a room with the view to the river - it makes a difference. every time of day the colours change...

We stayed one night but Not to recommend! Very old hotel, with rooms even older! It is not known the meaning of the word it clean in the rooms at the hotel it! The funniest thing was at the checkout: they asked if we had taken something from the mini bar .... pity that it was empty and not working! The doubt is that do different treatments but the structure of the hotel is unacceptable. Remember Steyr is very pretty but do not stay at the hotel Minichmayr!

Naturally it would be raining the day we arrived after a demanding train ride from Mainz to Steyr. Although the hotel is a very easy 5-minute walk into town, trying to save the 5Euro taxi ride would be false economy when bags would arrive soaked. Besides, the short ride into town gave us a quick look at the confluence of two rivers: the Enns and Steyr. Check-in was wonderful with a genuinely warm welcome and help with bags to our river view room with the old town as a backdrop. Admittedly, the room looks a bit old but everything is clean and all amenities are modern and well maintained. Our first night we ate in the stübli adjacent to the main dining room, as we wanted a more relaxing dinner. With the ambiance of a hunting lodge and pinewood decor, the stübli was perfect for the cool, wet evening. Prices are quite reasonable with aperitifs (proseco) at 5 euros, salads around 5 euros, and main courses from 12 to 25 euros depending on whether one selects Hungarian goulash or fresh fish. Wines are offered by the glass, and the helpful staff can assist in making choices.

Our two full days consisted of exploring the old town, home to composers Bruckner and Schubert for a spell, and the Christkindl church, which serves as a pilgrimage during Advent when thousands throng the place to glimpse its creches and to send Christmas cards. One should know that during WWII, Steyr installed a weapons factory near the Romberg Palace and gardens. Perhaps this conversion to a Christmas mecca is a form of atonement. A town museum features creches (Christmas cribs or manger scenes), memorabilia from the town itself, and a most bizarre assemblage that would entrall anyone into Black Sabbath and Goth experiences. Shortly before Christmas, families sport these pagan masks in an original pageant held before Christmas to drive out evil spirits before the Christ child arrives. In this context, the exhibit is fascinating; in the museum, a bit frightening.

Our hotel features a weekend package (two or three nights) that include a special breakfast and dinner on the night of one's choice. It can't be Sunday as the dining room is closed that night. On the first morning we made our way into the crowded breakfast room, grabbed the last two seats, and elbowed our way to the buffet area. In 15 minutes, the place cleared out and we realized that this was a room reserved for a tour group. As no one pointed this out to us, we continued eating by ourselves until a much embarrassed hotel team descended on us with plates of crab, salmon, champagne, meats, fresh fruit, salads. This was meant for our "special breakfast." Fortunately, they agreed to allow us to have the special another day. Our dinner arrangements that night included a special candlelight four-course meal which included terrine of pumpkin on salad, parsley soup, roasted veal with vegetables, and a plate of several samples of desserts from the main menu. On our final night we ate a minimaliist restaurant in the old town called Cafe Postman, 13 Stadtplatz. With almost no ambiance, the restaurant has a smoking room and a separate non-smoking room, where we were about the only customers that evening. For 25 euros, we had soup, salads, wonderful Austrian breads, four glasses of wine (two each). Very good value and an excellent way to amortize the rich breakfast and dinner the night before. We paid 447 euros for the three-night weekend package, which included one dinner, a special breakfast, and a large double room overlooking the rivers and old town. For those seeking an experience that is certainly off the beaten track, this is it.

A beautiful hotel in a very lovely village,Steyr. The hotel is situated on the crossing of 2 rivers. Magnificent location, very good service, friendly staff, nice restaurant. If you visit it in summer, choose the tables of the restaurant that are placed on the bridge to drink a bottle of austrian wine; you will fall in love with what you will feel.

The Hotel Minichmayr is truly romantic, as advertised, but the owners have put a lot of thought and care into its operation. As a result, it is an ideal place to stay in this low-key river town. Its location couldn't be better, just a short walk over the bridge to the town center.. Our bedroom, which overlooked the river, was large and well decorated; the bathroom modern and well appointed. Free parking (a bit difficult to negotiate) is available.. If you stay here, definitely stay for dinner, which is somewhat pricey but features local produce. When we were there, mushrooms were "in season" - ahhh.

Hotel overlooks the confluence of the Inns and the Steyr rivers. Use to seeing ducks on a river? Steyr has Swans which many locals feed off the bridge using bread from the local bakeries.

Directlyacross from the inn is a beautiful church and school. School kids passed by our window on the way toward the pealing school bells on Saturday morning.

Also from the hotel is a good view of the town castle.
