“Memorable experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2013

Happened upon this restaurant based upon the glowing reviews we had read on Trip Advisor... As we had been traveling on an AMA Waterways cruise for two weeks on the Danube with absolutely horrible food we were desperate to take advantage of a night in port and seek out a proper meal with some Austrian flair and atmosphere... Herberstein did not disappoint... We showed up on their doorstep randomly without a reservation on a Saturday night and after a brief 30 minute wait in their cozily lit lounge we were escorted to a lovely table for two. We opted for the 8 course tasting menu and requested Austrian wine pairings and had a fantastic experience. Each course was inventive and beautifully presented without being "fussy"... My first course was of all things foie gras with chocolate! That was a first but oh my goodness was it decadent and fabulous... As my husband does not do foie gras the chef prepared a seared scallop especially for him and my husband effused that it was literally the best scallop and accompanying sauce that he had EVER eaten and that is saying a lot given that we live on Grand Cayman and grew up in Florida and have had more than our fair share of exemplary scallops in our lifetime! Each course was as good as the last and we strolled back to the ship along the river at 11:30pm very satisfied with our decision.. The service was attentive and warm and we had a relaxing and delicious meal that we will always remember (as opposed to one more crappy meal on AMA Waterways - bleh). .. Thank you to the staff at Heberstein for making such a memorable evening for us...

“World class--who would have suspected such in Linz!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2013

Our son and daughter in law each had the 6 course fixed price meal. Each course artistically presented, fresh, and perfectly prepared. These two have eaten all over the world, and our daughter-in-law said she would rank it in the top 10 anywhere. The wine list was extensive as well.

While a weekday night, we were wise to reserve early as, although having many tables in different rooms, the restaurant appeared to fill.

Service, while quite good, was not at the same level as the food. And, while once enjoys a leisurely European paced meal, 4 hours was a bit long.

Overall a very good experience and a good value.

We had dinner during our visit to linz. Enjoyed the tuna and place has its own romance, difficult to locate but as you are there it had its own distinct cosy ness . Good service and recommend for a pleasant evening.

“Romantic dinner for two”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2013

When looking for a restaurant in Linz, Herberstein caught our attention with their Saturday night special romantic dinner for two. The 4 course dinner comes with a bottle of wine and the food was delicious and very nicely presented. The Zander (fish) as main dish was excellent and the dessert, a lemon creme brûlée with buttermilk was, albeit a unusual combination, a real discovery. We definitely recommend Herberstein's Saturday evening special!

“Fine dining in Linz”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

Herberstein is one of two restaurants in Linz rated by Gault Millau with two toques, and it is priced accordingly. Located in the old part of the city it has nice, intimate dining areas with a relaxing atmosphere and a hip cocktail bar.

The 3 course meal was lovely and well-presented, and I would have given it a much higher overall score if we hadn't had to wait 45 min. between the appetizer and main course, which had obviously been prepared quite some time earlier, as my fish and the wife's chicken were both dried out.

They have a good wine selection and the service staff were quite friendly.
