Reviewed December 11, 2013

We stayed here for a few days, and had mixed feelings.
Good things: Bed, excellent linen. 10 out of 10 for that.
Staff tried very hard to be nice and helpful, both at the desk, and in the bar/restaurant breakfast staff.
great breakfast, although some things seem to "run out" at times. 9 of 10.

Not so good things: no proper ventilation system in bathroom, so the fog on mirror stays forever if you take a bath. So forever stays the smell, when you use bathroom. Can be a bit embarrassing. 2 out of 10 for bathroom.
All room doors are slamming in a noisy way, and you will get a nasty wake-up to their sound. a small rubber pad on each door would fix it. 3 out of 10 for this.

Smokers in the bar, without a place for non-smokers to hide, and again - no efficient ventilation to remove smoke. Like a pub in sixties. Very unpleasant for visiting non-smokers. 2 out of 10.
Location of hotel - a bit on side, away. long walk to the city center, no shops around, nothing.

Very bad things:
While I praised the staff, I have to say - it is top management who fails badly. One would expect that at arrival to a fine hotel after a long trip, there may be a free water to welcome you in your room. No - the small bottle in your room has a steep price of 4.50 Euro. Drink tap water or pay!

One could also expect that - similarly to many lower priced hotels these days - your internet will be included, or you will at least get the 30 minutes complimentary free use - offered by the least generous chains. No again - you need to pay 15 euro a day for privilege of having interment in the room, like it was a novelty, or something very fancy these days.

There is free internet in the lobby, but there can be very crowded, noisy, running kids - and clearly this is what management counts on - to push you towards paying a high price for using it in the room.

The expensive water, crazy price for internet, along with overpriced goods in a reception shop - they all show you clearly about the desire to milk you out of your hard earned money - they all point to the greed of top management and hotel owners. No elegant gestures, no feel of being welcomed. Pay! Pay now! It leaves a bad taste, does not "feel like home" at all. 1 out of 10 for that. Bad, bad, bad. Rethink it!

Overall 4 out of 10 - which translates to 2 out of 5. And it could easily be much better, if not for design faults and greed.

This is a relatively new hotel, but needs alot in service and training departments. Check-in took quite a while and there were plenty of staff and not busy...additionally no special greeting or acknowledgement for a Platinum member. The room is standard marriott quality so no complaints there (good bed, linen) BUT there were lots of kids running around in the hallways and staff did nothing about it. The bar area off the lobby that you must walk through to get to the restaurant (and in our case where we ate as restaurant wasn't open) allows smoking. Marriott should stick to an all non-smoking policy in the hotel. The location has nothing around it. There is a garage for parking that seemed secure. All in all just average and at the price, unless you are a slave to marriott reward program, I would stay somewhere else next time.

Stayed here for one night on business and was very happy with this hotel. It had a nice modern feel with good parking facilities. Check in was easy and the room was spacious and clean so cant complain. The breakfast was excellent and one of the best hotel breakfasts I`ve ever had with a massive selection of foods! Also has a nice bar area.
I cant comment on its location as we arrived late and stayed in the hotel before departing early the next morning.

Stayed here a few times whilst working at the Chemiepark down the road.

Staff are excellent and always friendly and smiling. Rooms are all identical, beds are quite nice but sometimes the shower heads aren't very secure and drop down meaning an awkward shower experience. Bar/restaurant are nothing special and food is quite disappointing, plus smoking being allowed isn't particularly pleasant.

There are two breakfasts, one in the main restaurant and a cheaper 'business' breakfast in the bar area. If you just want a quick coffee, croissant and cereals head for the bar in the morning.

The location is quite a way from the city, opposite a Nestle factory. Regular buses run into the centre which I only discovered on my third stay. I'm glad I did, its beautiful and I'll try to stay there next time.

Very good, though not very atmospheric business hotel on the edge of town; in a light industrial area near the railroad tracks. Good, secure parking for our bikes.

However, there are a number of smaller, more atmospheric hotels in or near the old town, or near the Danube which would have been much better choices for the enjoyment of the largest town on our route.

Fortunately, we found a superb restaurant (Il Theatro) a 10 minute walk away thanks to a tip from a friendly receptionist at the Marriott.

First off.. shame on Austria for not following the rest of Europe in not implementing a blanket smoking ban. It is nothing short of disgusting to walk into a walk of smoke when you enter their bars and restaurants and that includes the hotel bar here in the Courtyard Marriott!! Which has no "non smoking" section and offers no obvious ventilation to remove the smoke from other customers.

The reason you stay in places like the Marriott is for more of the same - you know what to expect in terms of quality and comfort and the Courtyard Marriott delivered as expected. Check in was simple and the room was perfectly fine. A good sized double bed (comfortable) with a double duvet and ample supply of pillows. The room was bright, clean and warm (too warm and the air conditioning didn't work).

We were on the side facing the main road, so with no working air conditioning we had no option but to open the window, subjecting us to huge traffic noise.

We didn't eat in the hotel at all as I paid for a bed only rate and had breakfast in the nearby market. The fact that the bar was smoking turned us off eating there completely and we only drank when the bar was close to empty, so you could choose seats far enough away from the smokers.

We stayed in this hotel because we were attending an event in the Design Centre right behind it. If it weren't for that, I think the hotel is too far outside of the city centre for an actual visit to Linz itself. A taxi will cost about €8 into the town or about a 20 min walk.

One last grip... €4.10 for a bottle of water in the room is day light robbery. As is having to pay €15 for internet

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel overlooking the design centre rather than the road on front.
