I am not a beer drinker - but their dark was enjoyable. The rest got the light and then got the mixed.

Austria has not yet banned smokers in restaurants, and on our visit every other person was a smoker. There was a room available for non smokers which was great. The open courtyard dining area was very popular. Expect higher prices here.

Pity that they allow smoking inside. Good choice of beers and the service was quick and friendly. Most service staff spoke or understood English (Australian)

I understand that this is a local town favorite - but they tend to trade off reputation and the locals laziness to go somewhere else.

Food - yes they have a good menu, small tasters, the Austrian faves and some seasonal specials. But be prepared to wait and then wait some more. Depending on your waiter, you will either have a great experience or a difficult uncomfortable one - there seems to be nothing in between here,

Beer - this is what they do best. They brew their own beer, but again - god help you in you are thirsty, because chances are table service will leave you with empty glasses and going to the bar is like running the night club gauntlet.

Service - Irregular and most of the staff show a real discontent for non locals, to say that they are outright rude is a bit harsh - lets just say cool and unhelpful.

Sunday Brunch - in a city where the term 'brunch' tends to still means cold cuts and cheese, then Josef is a good choice, they do a full hot and cold buffet - not as good as it was 5 years ago - but still a great place to enjoy a nice brunch with friends. But BOOK, BOOK, BOOK ... tables here on Sunday are hard to come by even for 2 people it can be tough to get a seat.

Overall - they have good beer and a decent range of wines, cocktail quality varies and the service runs hot and cold. Its a nice place to come if you keep your expectations low. Because service can be great or awful. Oh! TIP .. always order a drink well before you run out ... their drinks service is terribly slow. And when you reserve a table - if you are non German speaking confirm via email, we have many a time booked over the phone only to arrive and have no table available when we arrive.

The personal refused to talk english with us and we felt ourselvs uncomfortable and humiliated. Close the restaurant and writ - only for locals if you do not want to serve strangers. Such a pity - an excellent work of cooks may be spoiled by unpleasant service
