We stay at this lovely little B&B for 3 nights. It is in theme with the area unlike major hotel chains where once you close the door you could be in the same place every time. Here you feel like you are in a small Austrian village and it is wonderful. The rooms are very clean and comfortable but, as said before, the bathroom towels are not the best but this is such a small thing in comparison to everything else. There is a great common area with a big comfortable lounge that overlooks the lake and mountains. We sat here in the peaceful oasis to access the free wifi and admire the view.

Klaus serviced us a basic, but substantial, breakfast each day that was fresh and tasty. At this time he would discuss what you wanted to do each day and offer tips and information to enable you to get the best from your day.

There are free bikes you can use for to cycle around the village. This was a great way to cover more ground with less effort.

Washing is offered at a great price but don't take advantage of this offer for delicates and whites. I don't think I can salvage any of our white t-shirts etc.

There are so many activities to keep you busy for a few days. A wonderful destination and B&B.

We very much enjoyed our stay at this lovely lakeside B&B. It has a fantastic location looking out over the lake - a lakeside room with the breathtaking view is a must - and both the house and the lake are so serene and peaceful. The room was comfortable. Breakfast is a bit simple, but enough and perfectly served by such a friendly, helpful host with so much information and advice about what to do given the weather on the day. And they did our washing for another bargain price - the whole place is excellent value! We will definitely come back here next time we're in Halstatt.

Room tip: You must choose a lakeside room with the stupendous view!

My wife and me visited to Hallstatt at 14-15 Sep and we were staying in Pension Sarstein for two nights.

It is quite rare that we could not find any negative things with the Pension;
The host was so friendly & helpful; he was so passionate to provide all necessary travel info for the town.
The room was nicely furblished and was so clean;
The mattress was not aged at all and the linen was also very new and clean, (becsue we ususally found most of the bed mattress are too soft in europe hotel...);
we were given a lake view double room with a big balcony..superb!!
Breakfast is not complex and we were 100% satisfied with the food, the envirnoment (full lake view table with classical music on a sunshine morning...) with the dinning room.

This is the best place for our 2 weeks trip. No doubt to recommand this lovely pension to all travellers who is going to visit Hallstatt!!

Great: Views, hosts, breakfast
Would recommend asking to use the bicylces to explore the area. The area around the lake is amazing, as is Obertraun. There are also lots of hiking trails in this area that could keep an active person busy for several days.

The Pension Sarstein is every bit as good as all the tripadvisor reviews. It is one of the most peaceful places I have ever been.

We stayed in room #1 and had a lovely balcony with breathtaking views of the lake. We spent many hours relaxing in a chair by the lake, drinking wine and enjoying the view.

Breakfast is adequate with coffee, cereals, yogurt, rolls, jams and boiled eggs on request.

There is a shared fridge in the breakfast area that guests may use.

There is no parking at the pension, however the price of your room includes the use of the Hallstatt shuttle. We used the shuttle 3 times and did not have any problems. The owners can inform you of the shuttle schedule.

I really do not want to fault this hotel on anything because of the beautiful location and excellent price, but I feel there are a few things that need to be noted: Our reservation stated that we would have a bathroom "just for us." I assumed this meant that it was in the room, but it was not. There was a sink in the room, which was nice, but no shower or toilet. That was located across the hall. Upon check in, it was again mentioned that the toilet and shower were "just for us," but there were numerous occasions that proved otherwise (toilet seat left up, towel on the floor, dirty footprints in the shower...). This is the first bathroom that someone sees when they enter the hotel, so if they didn't realize it was not for public use, it is easy to see how someone would just use it. I think this problem could easily be eliminated by adding the word "private" on the outside of the door. Perhaps other rooms are better appointed?? You may want to ask about this when reserving a room.

One other thing to mention...the towels provided are washed (most likely without fabric softener) and then dried in the sun. They are adequate but very scratchy.

Even with my two little complaints, I would recommend this hotel to anyone and plan to return again someday!

Room tip: Ask if there is a room with en suite bathroom.
