The middle point of Old Town Hallstatt. It is definitely not a big square bit looks really picturesque and cozy. The combination of the fountain, the different benches, the terraces of the cafes and the beautiful buildings makes it a place worth to visit. Seehotel Gruner Baum is also located on the square. It has a really nice restaurant with a terrace on the Hallstatter lake!
The central square of Hallstatt is very charming. Be aware that it is mobbed. If you walk one block uphill the town becomes very quiet and even more charming.
We were staying in Hallstatt for only a couple of days so we needed to get the most out of it. After dinner each night we would walk through the marktplatz. It was quiet and you could hear waterfalls and just enjoy the beautiful city. there are many cute shops as well but they close early so most of the time we just window shopped.
A very busy little town with tourists everywhere. Our guide showed us a picture of the identical square that has been replicated in China!
Hallstatt is fantastic and really worth the effort of going there - it is a two and a half hour train trip from Salzburg. The market square is stunning. Traditional style buildings which are truly charming. There are lots of restaurants and shops around the area. Simply brilliant.
