The food was absolute delicious and slightly worth the price then other restaurants around the area. However the service was not up to standard but that's what I notice about all the restaurant in Austria. We waited quite a long time for service and ended up going to the waiter where they all sat together having a chat. We also had to call them for more drinks and for the check. The food however was very nice.

The Gasthof is near to the ferry station, main square and next to See Hotel, our room are facing the beautiful lake with balcony, as famous town so price was a bit high and the Gasthof are without lift.

Many things wrong with this hotel, but having no heat takes the cake. It was about 40 F outside (October 16-17, 2016) and there was no heat anywhere in the hotel. In addition, the restaurant was closing and the back door was open the entire time. Often the front door was open too. Guests were eating breakfast in coats and ski hats. I wish I had been able to find another hotel, but everything was booked.
The lobby looked like the attic - mess everywhere. Light bulbs missing everywhere - one chandelier in the lobby had no lights, another had only one. Everything squeaked - floors and doors. The reception was almost impossible to find since it was just a 3 foot diameter table in the corner and rarely staffed.

Gasthof Simony is exactly how I pictured an inn in Hallstatt! Claudia, the innkeeper, greeted us with a warm smile, and walked us to the room. The place is 400 years old, and I couldn't imagine it being cozier. Our room opened up to a balcony on the lake, and the furniture was made out of hearty wood. It's very quiet at night, we sat on the balcony and watched the stars with a bottle of wine. The area breakfast was served in was also adorable. There is only wifi in the lobby, but when you are in such a quant old town, I can't imagine anything better than unplugging from the fast paced world!
(We also got dessert from their restaurant, the apfel kuchen was one of the best desserts we've ever had!)

Room Tip: The balcony with the lake view was picturesque!

Pros:
- Perfect location at the Marktplatz, close to the pier and where iconic shot is taken. Not too far from funicular and the bus station.
- Buffet breakfast was adequate and with some kinds of varieties.
- the staff was cheerful and helpful.
- they were nice offering me a single person price using the double room when I stayed there alone.

Cons:
- the gasthof is a bit old and worn out. It's of wooden floor so be careful.
- the wifi was weak and almost only accessible when in the lobby and thee restaurant.
