positives: very close to the lake and city center of Hallstatt. The house is oldies but clean, the staff is nice.
We were at a family room, the room distribution is well, the heating system is good.
negatives: the sound-proofing is not enough,

The worst in Europe.
Went on a Christmas break but there was more Christmas cheer on a turkey farm than this most inhospitable hotel.
The bar was closed over Christmas because the owners wanted their family Christmas. So why have us there? A financial commodity.
Suggest you eat out.
Breakfast was good and the bedroom roof didn't leak, other than this I cannot think of anything positive to say.

Nice clean hotel room with a balcony and close to the bus station and Hallstat see but 800 meter far from the downtown. However, it is not necessary to stay overnight unless you come quite late. A few hours for taking picture is enough unless you want to go to salt mine or trekking.

Our family of 4 (2 adults + 2 tweens) stayed for 1 night in August 2012. Instead of having to book 2 separate rooms, the hotel recommeded we book the quad (don't remember seeing this option on the website). The quad had a separate bedroom, which worked great for the kids. The room was very basic and a little dated. The very small tv on the wall was really too far away to be useful. It would have been nice to have a hotpot in the room to make coffee or tea. There was a 'coffee vending machine' down the hall, but it wasn't working correctly.

The positives include the nice, large and free parking lot right on the hotel's property and the hotel's proximity to a nice, little grocery store and the Salt Mine. The hotel is nicely situated and is very close to the pedestrian area of Hallstatt. The breakfast was very basic, but I appreciated having name cards on the tables. It assured everyone a place to sit:) We were in Hallstatt during the height of the summer tourist season. Although basic, the hotel offered an average stay for an average price:) I was disappointed there wasn't WiFi...seems strange in 2012:( Check out was at 10am, but after we checked out the hotel staff allowed us to leave our car in the parking lot for a couple hours while we finished our sightseeing:))

The location is near the main things to do in Hallstatt which is a very beautiful town. However the hotel was the worst I stayed at in my travel through Austria. The room was so hot. There was no fan in the room. I asked for a fan three times and was told one would be brought to my room. When I got back from dinner the reception was closed and there was no fan. The phones in the room don't work and the hotel has no wifi. I had no way to contact anyone to ask for a fan. It was an awful nights sleep. I really wanted to ask for a refund because the room was so uncomfortable. The bed was awful. It was a cheap mattress with cheap sheets. They have signs all over the hotel on all of the things you can't do. And things that you must do like leave by 10am. The receptionist is behind a closed glass that you have to tap on to get her to come to the window. I wondered why she was behind closed glass. Does she have better things to do than help guests? That was the impression I got from the hotel. The breakfast was below average. I was so frustrated when I couldn't reach anyone at night. Since I'm traveling from the US I didn't have a cell phone and they don't have wifi or any computers I couldn't call anyone. They close at 9pm. Thank goodness we arrived early in the day or we wouldn't have been able to check in. The hotel management really needs to rethink how they run this hotel so that they cater to the clients and not just have a list of all of the things that hotel guests shouldn't do. Hallstatt is a lovely town and it is hard to get a room so I guess that is what this hotel is banking on.

Hallstatt is an incredibly beautiful place with lots to see and do but this hotel was very average. The people working here were hard-working, friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is easy to access by car and is right at the end of the main pedestrian area of Hallstatt. The spacious rooms are looking very tired and the beds were not very comfortable. Lumpy matresses at best. The balcony of our room was in desperate need of repair. Breakfast was good. Would we stay there again? ..... Nope.

The Bergfried Gasthof is an great place to say for exploring Hallstatt. The hotel is located right off the main road, has a large/free parking lot and is only a very short walk to the center of Hallstatt. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the view from our balcony was tremendous.

Breakfast consists of basic rolls, bread, juice and coffee, nothing exciting, but enough to get you going in the morning. The best thing about the Bergfried Gastof is its location, and the price. This place might be the best bargain in the Hallstatt area. When we return to Hallstatt, we will defiantly stay at the Bergfreid Gastof again.

Room Tip: We had 5 adults in our group and stayed in the 3 bedroom apartment. Other than the three flights of...
