“Good food and quality accommodation”
Reviewed November 15, 2013

Arrived around noon time when the owner was busy at the restaurant kitchen, pretty surprise that they allowed us to checked in right away despite that we were too early.
The room was huge with partial lake view. Quality fittings were provided and small details were not neglected which would be more than sufficient to satisfy demanding folks.
The small restaurant was tastefully decorated and food served were outstanding.
We had 3 meals there in a single day and not a single dish that fail to meet our expectation. We were indeed fascinated to have breakfast which was included in the package with great variety of quality food available.
We enjoy our stay in this small family run hotel and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone that wants both good food and good room under one roof.

Although Hallstatt is a small town, like always, location can be everything! Situated in the "downtown" area of Hallstatt, this hotel offers everything from free wi-fi to a hearty, and free, breakfast! Great staff and very easy to find. Will use this hotel everythime I'm in Hallstatt from here on out!!!

Room Tip: Ask if the view of the lake is available. Worth every penny!

The rooms are clean but very small, and don't expect a view. We arrived after hours (around 10pm), and the owner made us feel that he did us a huge favor by letting us in! When we were down for breakfast the next morning, the staff started packing up the food before 10, when we were still eating. They literally pulled out the plates from me when I was trying to take a few bread rolls! I've never come across such a rudeness in hotels anywhere in Europe! Then the owner pointed us to the wrong carpark, and we were not able to use the discount promised on the hotel's website. So stay away from this hotel if you don't want to spoil your stay in such a beautiful town.

We booked 2 nights.
In the morning of the first night on the way from Prague in Czech republic someone broke into our car and among other things our passports and all documents were stolen, so we had to change the route and were not able to arrive for the first night.
We called immediately and spoke with Alex (the only one who can speak English) and he said it's not his problem and we will pay 100%. We didn't have so much choice (by the way, in the original booking email it was written that there is 90% charge for no-show).

After being 10 hours in Czech police, driving 600 km, waiting 5 hours in embassy we were able to arrive to Hallstatt at 9 pm the second day in order to sleep there. We called Alex twice during the day and he was rude. He also was rude when explaining how to get there. When we arrived this guy was super angry that we are arriving late.
The room was basic but clean.
The next morning we checked out and came to pay. Alex provided an invoice with 2 items on it
1. Second night of visit
2. Others
For the others he charged 90% of the night price.

We asked to change "other" to "first night- no show" hoping to claim it with insurance company. He refused and started yelling at us. Then he run away and came back with new invoice with 100% price and instead of others written what we asked for. We asked why he increased the price. He became very angry, told his mother on German to call police (ridiculous) . We continued to ask why he did this and he said that for such invoice he will pay more tax for both nights so it's more expensive. So he simply tried to use us to play with his taxes.
I have a feeling that this guy has mental problems as his behavior was disgusting and every interaction with him was
Hallstatt is really great place to visit and we had wonderful half day after check out but i recommend to avoid this hotel no matter what.

they don't provide kettle in the room, that's fine. You can get hot water from their bar and each cup of them is 0.3 euro, that's fine. At 9 pm, I try buy one hot water for my sore throat the answer is " the machine is already been turn off, and I can't do anything " In the end, I got two big bottle hot water from the other hotel " gasthof zauner " and that's free.
so next time, if you really have to stay Gasthof Weisses Lamm, bring your kettle with you or don't catch the cold

The room is centrally located and it is spotless clean with a very good view. The breakfast offers wide spread and is generous. Well worth the money.

Our room is on the 3rd floor, though it can provide a better view, you have to carry your luggage all the way upstairs without elevator.

The staff is cool and there isn't any services at all, no greeting but just pass you key, that is. When checking out, we asked the owner, Alex (should be the son of the owner and the only one can speak English) where we can take the shuttle bus to the car park (car park P1 is located 20 mins from the hotel , and they have Hallstatt shuttle bus to pick up ppl to/from different hotels), he directed us to wait at the left hand side after exiting the hotel entrance which is the same place we were being dropped off. And, the shuttle runs at every half hour, so we just wait there for few minutes even it is quite a heavy raining day. However, after 15 mins, we can't see any shuttle bus come, and we asked Alex again, he replied that we have to go to the main street instead of the place we being dropped off. Totally confused. And, he further said we have to wave to the shuttle when it comes to show that we need the service. Oh god, it is a heavy raining day, and we have been carrying our umbrella for 15 mins, and then we have to stand in the street for another 30 mins (the bus late for 10 mins eventually) without any caring, any apologies for unclear directions, what a service.

Please be also reminded that they don't offer any drinking water and even kettle, be prepared that you have to drink tap water.

Room Tip: No elevator, be sure that you have requested a low floor room if you don't want to carry your lu...

Rooms are nice. Ours was a little small but clean, excellent bathroom and comfortable bed.

Woman greeting us was rude and unhelpful. Perhaps the owners prefer no English speaking guests. If so perhaps they need to just say so and we could go elsewhere.

We are pretty self sufficient but my husband is three months post BP replacement and no offer was made to help with small suitcase up the three flights of stairs. No attempt was made to try to understand our questions. Fortunately this experience is not characteristic of the warmth we found from other Austrians. We do love the country and its people.
