There are not a lot of hotel rooms in the waterfront area of Hallstatt so choices can be limited if you don't book in advance. We visited in off-season and many hotels were booked up. So, we didn't know what to expect when we reserved Weisses Lamm the night before at a good rate. What we found was an amazing hotel. I believe our room was one of the few with a clear view of the lake. We had a balcony, large windows, very spacious room and bathroom. The bed was a bit uncomfortable (springs pushing up) but we slept on top of the comforter to overcome the lumps. The fitness room had some interesting surprises with a sauna and steam shower (although the hours were quite limited to access it). Its a family run inn and the family/staff was nearly non-existent but if you needed help with something there was always someone around to help with a smile. The breakfast buffet was incredible - fresh breads, spread of meats and wonderful cheeses, smoked salmon and seafood, eggs, cereal and a variety of desserts. The menu for other meals looked good and we tried to eat in the dining room twice but both times we missed the hours of service as they appeared to close the kitchen early if there weren't customers.

Room Tip: High rooms with balcony

My friend & I thoroughly enjoyed a 2 night stopover in beautiful Hallstatt in early September. We arrived after a 27 hr flight to Munich, then a 4 hr train journey & the lovely room was a welcome sight to a pair of weary travellers. I had requested a room with balcony & lake view & sure enough that's exactly what we got & even tho it was up 3 flights of stairs (no elevator) the view was more than worth the climb. We thought the room was quite spacious (we were travelling with luggage for 5 weeks) & there was plenty of room for us to spread out without being in each other's way. The bathroom was small, but well appointed & everything was sparkling clean - fluffiest towels of the trip too! The buffet breakfast was excellent & anyone who was not satisfied by the variety & quality of food would be extremely difficult to please.
Even the location couldn't be faulted - barely a 10 min walk from the ferry - & a number of good restaurants & cafes nearby.
Hallstatt is a wonderful place to relax & enjoy - we would have loved to stay longer to do some of the walks, but did go up on the gondola & walked back into town through the forest, less then 45 mins. I thoroughly recommend a visit there (minimum 2 night stay) & if there is a better place to stay than Gasthof Weisses Lamm it must be very good indeed. We also thought it was excellent value at 42 Euro pp including the lovely breakfast.

Room Tip: For a super all round view ask for room no 31 (think that's the number); it's at the top of...

We stayed 2 nights in mid-September 2011. We travelled with another couple and their room was very small (no room for luggage, bathroom door hit the bed, etc.) and ours was much larger. Both rooms had balconies - no lake view but still a nice view. The rooms were simple and clean. There is no elevator and we were on the 3rd or 4th floor – but the staff helped haul our luggage up and back down the stairs. The location is great – walking distance to everything. The included breakfast buffet was good. There is no dedicated reception area so when we had questions we didn’t always find someone who spoke English. Be sure to ask about the free parking. Somehow I got instructions to park in the P1 lot when P3 would have been free.

In May this year, my wife and I had a very enjoyable three night stay at Gasthof Weisses Lamm which is a small hotel, recently renovated in very tasteful style. It is centrally located in Hallstatt and about 300 metres from the ferry terminal. Our bedroom was well appointed, spacious, with a comfortable bed, a modern en suite bathroom, and a balcony. Although our room did not have a view over the lake, it was pleasant to sit on the balcony and look down over the village roofs and streets.
We elected to take the half board option and thought this was very good value. For 12 euro per person, we received a 3 course dinner each evening, comprising the soup of the day, a choice of any meal from the main course menu (except steak meals), a dessert (no choice was provided but the desserts we had were all good) and tea or coffee.
We thought that the continental breakfasts were excellent. A wide range of cereals, yogurts, meats, delicious cheeses, fruits, vegetables, breads and rolls was provided, as well as fruit juices, teas and coffee.
The host Alexander was friendly and efficient.
Hallstatt is a very beautiful place and having such lovely accommodation at a very reasonable cost made our stay there most enjoyable.

The Gasthof Weisses Lamm is located right off the central square in the beautiful town of Hallstatt. Some of its rooms feature obstructed, albeit fantastic, views of the lake, whereas others have not much of a view at all. We were lucky and had a great view and a lovely room on the 3rd floor. Our room was spacious and nicely furnished. Unfortunately, the bathroom smelled a bit like the drains hadn't been cleaned in a while and we spent 2 of our evenings killing off ants before going to bed. We would have drawn these concerns to the attention of the hotel staff, but there really only seems to be a kitchen staff which serves as the de facto everything-else staff. We were not greeted upon our entry to the hotel, which doesn't really have any kind of reception area. After some searching, a nice enough young man helped us and informed us after the fact that free parking the hotel provides is located in a specific lot (P3), which was not the one with the hotel shuttle we'd been told about by e-mail. During our stay, we went in and out of the hotel without any kind of recognition and on the occasion when we had a question to ask, we had to do a bit of searching to find someone to ask.

On the recommendation of some other reviewer(s?), we paid for half-board at the hotel restaurant. While the server was pleasant enough, the food offered was not very good and the 12 EUR/person/night price for the half-board included no drinks and limited options. The food was also a bit heavy and greasier than other food we had in Austria.

For the price, Gasthof Weisses Lamm is a good enough place to stay. The rooms and location make it worthwhile. And with a bit of attention to the restaurant as well as service, friendliness and atmosphere, this really could be a special place.

Room Tip: 3rd floor = lake views... anything lower and you're out of luck.

We found hardly a room in this beautiful town Hallstat.
Pension is situated on the rustle resorts, is very clean, every day is clean.
Breakfast was exceptionally tasty and delicious.
Administrators husband and wife and son take care of business very well.
They have a sauna and fitness room but I did not use the Internet has good speed but is wired, if you do not have cable reception is offered to one.
If you stay more or at least 3 days in accommodation price drops and get a coupon and sightseeing in the area
