Stunning Abbey it totally dominates the sky line and sits above the pretty little town of Melk.
A Benedictine Abbey first established in the 11th century and then a totally new abbey built 1700’s ...now one of Europe’s greatest Baroque works.
It is home to 40 monks some of whom are teachers in the 900 pupil school also homed in the building.
The library and cathedral are absolute must sees !!
Definitely worth a visit.

We visited the abbey and thought it was pretty nice. We paid to do the inside viewing and the chapel at the end of the tour is amazing. The gardens are very nice and the views are nice as well of the township of Melk.

This stands at the top of the town and what a majestic grandeur view it gives you..breathtaking...we went to the top by bus .This unbelievable majestic building represents the baroque Hapsburg castle, it was given to the Benedictine order and it is an active schoo, and an active monastery. our one hour tour we learned so much. The library is outstanding ...the church is breathtaking!

This monastery is an absolute must see. It doesn't matter if you are religious or not, the place is steeped in history, the architecture is wonderful and the church is mind blowing.
Do not miss it. A wonderful experience.
