I am an experienced traveler, and have stayed in a wide variety of lodgings. But I have never, ever experienced something like this. I agree with the other reviews, that it is simply a place to sleep and nothing more, although the sheets themselves were old and scratchy.Breakfast was sufficient, nothing more. Here a list of why I didn't like this motel:
-Staff was not helpful or friendly
-No toiletry refills
-Fresh towels were not on offer, and the ones in the room were torn and dirty
-Room was generally unkempt:
THERE WAS A PAIR OF UNDERPANTS IN ONE OF THE DRAWERS
-Lightbulbs kept burning out, one after the other
-VERY POOR HEATING, the room was very cold as they turn it down at night, but even during the day you need to dress very warmly when you're in the room. The building is drafty and poorly insulated as well, the walls were very cold.
This was disconcerting because my whole family got the flu when we arrived.
- NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY, walls are paper thin so it's very loud.
-Strict policy of "quiet time"
-Staff didn't speak English (which isn't so bad, but it's not good for international travellers)
-Shower didn't work, it was full of calcium buildup
-Long flight of stairs to get to your room, which was inconvenient traveling with a small child and luggage.
-No phones in the room, no desk service

This place could really use some fixing up! Ok, it's an old building and a budget B&B motel, but with a minimal investment, or at least, proper care of rooms, this place could make a better name for themselves. When I mentioned this place to locals, the general response was shock and disgust. Honestly, the only reason I booked this place was because everything else was booked out, and no mid-range hotel rooms were available. For about 20 Euros more a night the hotel "Wachauer Hof" , also downtown, had regular amenities and nice, clean rooms. So, really, this Pension is a rip off. For Melk it is wise to book farther in advance than a month if you want something nice but affordable.
Only positives were that the TV worked (although it was very tiny), the food was good, the beds were clean, rooms are large.

This is a place to lay your head down, on a budget. The shower was clean and modern. The host let us in and disappeared, which was okay since he spoke no English and we were out to explore the town anyway. Payment is in cash only. I would recommend it only for a night and just to sleep, as the furnishings and atmosphere were pretty dreary and tired.

We stayed at the Weisses Lamm while hiking the Danube trail. Our room was spacious, bright and airy with lots of space to organize our backpacks. Although the bathroom was a bit dated, everything was well maintained and in working order. The lounge area directly outside our room was underutilized. Pity as it's like entering a salon circa 1900. A pretty neat touch. Location is within spitting distance of the Melk Abby yet very quiet. At 56€/night including breakfast, hotel was more then adequate, however see my review of Pizzaria Venezia, the in-house restaurant.

This hotel is very well located on the main street of Melk. The reception is problematic. Guests enter a dark corridor next to a pizzeria and must go up a long flight of stairs to a living room on the second floor. Reception is by the owner who lives off this room. The free breakfast is good and adequate although it offers a restricted selection of foods. Most of the service is offered by the owner who serves breakfast in the morning and looks after the pizzeria in the evening. The cost of the room is lower than the nearby competitors but I think I would choose better service at a higher price next time.

Room Tip: Access to all the rooms is via a long staircase and is problematic for carrying heavy luggage or wit...

We were a little confused arriving at the hotel nog finding a place to check in but once we found the owner he was very helpful. Our room was fairly clean and big and the location is great. Parking is tight but free.

The breakfast was nothing special but left us full.

Good location and reasonable price.

The food of their restaurant was good. However, we waited for almost an hour to have our dinner came to the table.

No private parking. But there were plenty of parking spaces on the street. Don't forget to ask the service lady for the parking slip and put it on the front of your dash board during day time. You need to get another slip every one and half hours.

We arrived at Pension Weisses Lamm on a Saturday evening after 110 km cycling on the Danube trail. The hotel was, thankfully, very close to the train station and easy to find. The owner showed us a garage where we could keep our bikes and a big, bright, family-sized room (2 bedrooms) that we were given despite reserving only a double bed room for the two of us. The room was at the back of the hotel (farthest from the street), clean and very quiet. The only downside to the room is that the mattress was hard--but for one night, we couldn't complain. Dinner (Italian, Greek and Mexican dishes on the menu) and breakfast (typical cold European breakfast) at the hotel were both served by the owner and his daughter, and both the food and service were good. We wished that check out had been later than 10:30am, but for 56 Euro for the night including breakfast, the Pension Weisses Lamm was a great deal and we will be back!
