“Reservation not honored”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2012 via mobile

We had a reservation confirmation at the Hotel Wachau, but when we got there they did not honor it and said it was for this hotel, the Wachauhof. We were too tired to complain so spent one night at the Wachauhof. As others here have stated it is a bit rundown or maybe just plain unattractive. The location is fine and the room was basic, clean and quiet. There is no Internet access. The front desk staff was very congenial.

Stayed one night specifically to see the Abbey and do a trip on the Danube. Melk is an attractive town and the Abbey stunning. The Wachaurhof is quite large and in a good position next to the town centre and fifteen minutes walk to the river. It has plenty of parking. The rooms and the hotel generally are somewhat dated but clean and comfortable, breakfasts and evening meals were good. I can highly recommend the Danube trip Melk-Krems-Melk, wonderful scenery. We left the car with luggage at the hotel, the boat leaves Melk at 11am returning about 4pm which gave plenty of time to drive to our next stop in Vienna. Whilst not the most luxurious the Wachaurhof is clean, comfortable and good value, if you have a car the parking is a real plus.

An okay hotel in a great location. Main part of town only minutes walk, supermarket around the corner. The rooms are old an dated and not very sound proof especially when a tour group leave at a ridiculous time of the morning. The breakfast was good and plentiful. Free parking was good. No wifi or tea and coffee making facilities. In reality quite expensive for what you get.

We spent three nights at hotel wachauerhof in Melk, in August 2011 and were quite pleased with the hotel, even if there were a few drawbacks.
The hotel looks nice, the rooms are modern and very spacious, comfortable, clean. However, the lack of a refrigerator (or the possibility of hiring one) in a three star hotel of 90 E/night was upsetting, especially as we were travelling in August with a two year old. But we managed to get by due to the Spar market nearby. Also upsetting was the lack of internet connection in the hotel. Not really acceptable in 2011.
The restaurant was ok, we had lunch there once and the food was tasty, but the breakfast buffet was terrible, poor choice, poor quality, poor presentation. A big minus for that.
Melk is a great little town definetely worth seeing, we recommend a stroll along the Danube banks. We had dinner one evening in a restaurant by the riverside and was quite pleasant.
The place is renowed for its bicycle routes, so if you're into cycling, that is the place to go.
A thing that was not to our liking was that everything was closed by seven o'clock, even restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops and in summertime this is unimaginable.
All in all, we liked our short stay in Melk, we liked the visit to the stift and the surroundings.

Position in front of Danubio should be very beautiful even if the receptionist gave me a room in front of the parking!!!!
The room was very large but creepy, with sad, old woody furniture.
Room seemed clean even if i found a strange spot on my sheets.
Bathroom was renowed and beautiful.
Breakfast was decent.

This hotel in Melk was a perfect place to stay while visiting the Abby and also a great location if you want to rent bikes to bike along the Danube River Valley. (The hotel does not rent bikes however). The rooms were very well kept and clean, the beds were excellent. We requested a quiet room initially in our reservation and it was indeed. The breakfast was very good and you had a choice of eating outside on the patio or inside. The food selections were ample and had both hot and cold choices. The path to the Abby was just a few minutes away and also this hotel is just minutes away from the downtown shopping/eating area.

Room Tip: request quietest room in your reservation if that's what you're looking for

I was concerned after reading the other reviews on this site as to what we would find upon arriving, but it was nothing like the others described. The hotel is about as close to the abby and the old town as possible, as well as the bike paths into the Wachau.

The staff was helpful and friendly- they checked bus and train schedules for us, they printed maps, and I witnessed them calling around to other hotels for at least one person looking for a room (they were fully booked).

The hotel is not glamorous, but it was clean, and for the price, was perfectly fine. The rooms were basic, bed, TV, shower in the bathroom, etc. Breakfast was simple but plentiful, with bread, cold meats and cheeses, pastry, etc.

The hotel offers free bike rentals to guests for exploring the area and discount coupons for the boats that run from Melk to Krems and back. They also provide bag storage free of charge.

While we did not make use of it, the hotel also has a large parking lot for guest parking.

Overall, it was a good place to stay to explore the area.

Room Tip: We used booking.com and were given a triple room for a double price....
