Firstly, this two starred Michelin restaurant is hidden away in the beautifully eccentric interior of the Metropole Hotel. It is a journey of discovery before you are shown to your table.
The dining room is sumptuous, a mixture of comfortable velvet chairs, elegant spaces with enough room to feel private even in a crowded room, crystal, mirrors and glass door on to the garden exterior.
The service, as you would expect, is first class but more than that, all the staff from the maître d', sommelier and waiters are interested in making you feel at ease, in fact, to feel as comfortable to ask for whatever you wish in this exceptional restaurant.
It was a birthday celebration dinner for my wife and we chose the Discovery Menu, a formal tasting menu including at least six courses before two dessert courses, as well as the additional amuse bouche and the truly astonishing bread trolley.
This was our first visit and although we were tempted by the specials, I would recommend the discovery menu as you get to taste a whole range of the chef's skills for around 200 euro per head.
Of particular note was the quail's egg stuffed with caviar and crab meat which looked like a Fabergé egg and tasted divine.
The lobster course was stunning, but the quail stuffed with foie gras and truffle mash was outstanding.
The dessert courses included fresh strawberries paired brilliantly with a basil sorbet and a coffee bean ice cream concoction that was superb. I got carried away and had another dessert from the trolley.
In all with wine, expect to spend around 750 euro, but it is a price worth paying.
