“Worst hotel experience in years....”

Don't know where to start.
Useless concierge, gave us address to lunch restaurant, but mixed up Avenue with Rue, so we drove around for a hour. And it was a bad restaurant...
Send us to a dinner restaurant, supposedly top top. But forgot to tell us that jacket where required !!. And the restaurant was bad..
Service was non existent, every call for service was either not performed or late.
Every person that entered our room had bad attitude, room service, laundry pick up etc etc.
Just all around bad.
Two night in a row promised of fixing the in room movies, of course nothing works on day 2.

Room Tip: It so not help to get a suite, as even if the Sea look nice the staff and attitude will ruin your st...

Dear Guest, we are sincerely sorry to hear about your disappointing stay at the Columbus. We are very surprised to hear you have encountered so many difficulties and bad reactions from our employees. As you can read from most other reports sent to Tripadvisor, most guests mention the staff and the nice service given by the hotel. It seems that nothing was positive, not
even your meals outside the hotel. Avenue 31 is known as a good restaurant though, and if you ask for star awarded restaurant, then you have to wear a jacket in most places around the world.
We feel there is nothing we could say that will meet your approval, so we just hope your next stay in another hotel in Monaco will be more enjoyable. Regards. C.

I travel regularly on business to Monaco and to balance service, the location & cost for a hotel is a challenge. However, the Columbus is great. The service I find excellent, from the concierge, the reception, the bar and the restaurant. I have found to be very cheerful. The room size I find to be ideal and they are very clean. You are very close to Cap D'Ail or Port de Fontvieille so this means lots of nice bars and restaurants. Just 100 metres from the helipad but you would never know. It is close to the industrial zone - though again you would never know as this is Monaco! It is in a quiet location and means that if you wish to be in the Casino area you need to walk a fair way or catch the bus - either is easy in Monaco though.

We've stayed in this hotel a few times and are always happy with the level of service. It's clean, modern and the restaurant food is very good quality. The breakfast is excellent and served in a lovely dining room with a terrace. The concierge staff are always very friendly and helpful. The only complaint is that wifi is not free! The Fontevielle area is beautiful and there are several good restaurants and a bar nearby in the port area.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view are a little smaller, but some rooms at the front of the hotel have balconies and...

Dear Regular guest, many thanks for your kind appreciation and detailed report. This is very nice to hear and to forward to the staff. Just a precision : the standard Wifi access is free, you have to pay just if you need a high speed access for downloading heavy files. Kind regards. Claudine

This hotel is very clean with large rooms and great staff. The heli pad is next door, so if you take the heli from Nice, no need for transfer. Walking distance to the Porte of Fonteville with a great view of the Prince's Palace and a beautiful harbor. The pool are is amazing and over looks the Med. The spa is wonderful with good services. The #6 bus stop is just down the hill, and will take you to the top of town by the casino, and the Port of Hercule, where the big yachts are. The bar's signature drink "the Grace" was delicious, and the restaurant had delicious food at good prices. The hotel is away from the hussle and bussle of downtown which was nice. Yet, you can easily get to the downtown area. I would stay there again.

Stayed here twice now with my husband for long weekend breaks. The hotel is very modern and the bar and rooms comfortable and stylish. Near helipad pad which is the easiest way to arrive from Nice. Not necessarily nearest to the casino etc, but we never find it difficult to get around as the bus stop is across the road and taxis are plentiful. Both myself and my husband love this boutique hotel and are planning a return visit in september this year. Mini bar expensive (but this is monte-carlo and breakfast lovely.

Room Tip: Request a sea view

Stayed at the Columbus hotel for 2 nights on a business trip. I arrived late and the restaurant was almost closed but they had no problem staying open a little bit longer which was very positive. The food was good as well and the staff was friendly.

The rooms are OK but not exceptional, which is what you expect in this price range. I had a room with a balcony and a nice view over the sea so nothing wrong with that.

The breakfast was OK but a little bit below my expactation for this type of hotel and less than the competition in the neighborhood (Marriot). I specifically brought swimming clothing with me and I was very dissapointed to find out that the swimming pool was closed until the next week. This was not indicated on the website and I think they should have as the pool was very much promoted on their website.

Summary: overall a good hotel that I under normal circumstance would have given 4 stars, but given the expactations raised by the website and the high price tag (even taken Monaco price levels into account) I had expected a little bit more.

Room Tip: Rooms in the x20 range seem to have a view on the sea

Dear Guest, many thanks for your informative report and detailed comments. The outdoor swimming pool is opened from May to October, but according to the weather conditions and we must say that until now the spring has been really unpredictable and quite chilly. The pool indeed opens today May 13th with an outside temperature of 21 degrees. Kind regards.

I stayed here with my wife - and my in-laws in their own room - before a cruise. This hotel came as part of our cruise package. The rooms are comfortable, the hotel lobby and restaurant are chic, and the location is beautiful (across from the rose garden). I believe under regular circumstances this would have been a good hotel. However, they were clearly overwhelmed by the volume of 1 night stays (many others were also staying as part of the cruise line package). The staff were friendly and helpful, but clearly not able to keep up with the volume of reservations and luggage. I would consider returning, but would definitely look at other options first.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are definitely worth the money.

Dear Guest, we thank you for your report. Your stay was in August 2012 and since then, we have welcomed more cruises and we have been able to amend our organisation and staff so that now the arrival and departure of such a group is done more efficiently and smoothly. With kind regards. Claudine
