Stayed here in November to celebrate my wifes birthday and we loved it from start to finish. The hotel is perfectly positioned and the staff were great. We upgraded our room to a sea view which is a must and we ate in the hotel restaurant for 2 of the 3 nights we stayed and the food was excellent. We were offered a sea view table at both breakfast and dinner which was a nice touch, maybe because it was her birthday who knows. The room was lovely, I have seen other reviews but to be honest it was very, very nice. We took the tourist bus around the principality which allows you to get an idea of where you are and what you want to see. Would we go back, definitely. Its not cheap but worth it. Join the fairmont club its free and you get free wi fi. Going to the fairmont in Dubai (palm) soon so we know what to expect.

Room Tip: Sea view its a must

Nice hotel but needs major updating from top to bottom. Staff was great with what they had to work with. Was there for business but I wouldn't recommended it for business or pleasure until they upgrade

The Fairmont in Monte Carlo is literally steps from the Casino and the Mediterranean and the sculpture garden where the incredible Botero Adam and Eve reside. The rooms, as in all Fairmonts, are well-designed, comfortably furnished and stocked with their signature Rose soaps, etc. Quality and precision reign. The hotel is uninspired on the outside, so the luxe interior is even more appreciated. The restaurants serve decent, if not fine, food. Service is pleasant if specifically requested, but most hotel shops seem to have hours limited to times a weary late arriving or early leaving traveler would not find helpful.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the interior garden or the sea are fantastic. There is a suite one can engage...

Best service ever! The people who work here have been trained to deliver excellence. Breakfast is lovely and, if you get a room with sea view, even if only partial, it's magnificent. I would advise going during low season, when they make great deals!

Room Tip: Sea view is a must! Even partial

We stayed at the Fairmont for three nights while attending a conference held there. The room is the largest we've ever experienced in France and the large balcony overlooking the sea is sufficient reason to never leave the room! The hotel is perfectly located for a walk along the coast, a visit to the nearby Japanese Garden and to public transportation . Food is excellent, staff highly professional and helpful. Although this is a large hotel, it maintains an atmosphere of personal attention and calm. A wonderful experience!

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the sea offer views that are breathtaking.

The Fairmont MonteCarlo

I genuinely like the Fairmont in MC a lot and have been there several times. The rooms are excellent and if you book on-line (or even directly with the hotel) there are some great deals to be had for a hotel of this luxury.
The setting is lovely with views over the Med and whilst there are other rooms facing away from the sea or overlooking the gardens, I personally don't feel there is much point staying in the Fairmont unless you can get a room with a sea view (unless of course it's during the Grand Prix when you can get a room overlooking the track - but these are probably booked up years in advance) . All the rooms seem to have balconies which will include a table and a couple of chairs, as well as a cushioned sun-lounger. There is also an electrically operated awning to provide protection from the sun if you feel your tan is already sufficiently topped-up.

The staff are superb, universally polite and helpful, irrespective of whether they were cleaning the rooms, greeting guests at breakfast or acting as discrete life-guards by the pool.  I was particularly impressed by how charming they were to my teenage son, treating him as if he was the equal to any diplomat or businessman.

A problem I have is that I have no idea how to much I am expected to tip someone and I have a tendency to get carried away by the opulence of the surroundings and suspect that I may overtip. I would be grateful if anyone can provide any guidance as to how much I should palm a head porter who escorts me through the very long corridors of the hotel to my "Riviera Suite" with my embarrassingly tatty cases  being wheeled along by a dutiful junior porter. I gave him €10.00 and he seemed fairly happy to see me again so I think this may be in line with the norm - any views?

The breakfast buffet is pretty expensive at about €42 per head and when I was staying there with my wife and son in Mid Dec, a buffet breakfast for three coming in at approx €120.00 did take a fairly heathy chunk out of my wallet at the start of the day. On the plus side, my 14 year old son was able to head back to the buffet bar about 5 or 6 times each morning until he hit consumption capacity, returning with plates bulging with various combinations of chocolate donuts, smoked salmon, Parma Ham and pancakes with maple syrup (admittedly not every ones idea of a healthy start to the day but he certainly enjoyed himself).

The roof-top pool is truly excellent and superbly warm (about 30 degrees) and I feel is easily the best feature of the hotel. It is a lovely (and slightly unworldly) sensation to be floating in the pool on the top of the building and see the hills and sky scrapers of Monaco rising up around you, so make sure you don't forget your swimming togs.

The positioning of the hotel is very good for ambling around the Principality and there are even complimentary umbrellas in the rooms for the rare occasions when guests are let down by the Mediterranean weather.  Personally I love gawping at the huge luxury motor yachts and send pictures to friends of myself standing in front 60 metre long, 4 storey high gin palaces with highly original captions along the lines of "My New Boat". There is actually a little solar-powered ferry that crosses the harbour every 20 mins, only costs €2 and is well worth it for the great views of Monaco and even more mega-yachts.

Lastly don't forget to swipe all the shampoos, soaps and body lotions etc when you leave because they are all really very nice.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a sea view
