Description: Lounge bar and restaurant. Amber lighting, a Zen atmosphere, decor blending fabrics, colors, "objets d'art". Asian fusion cuisine, a subtle blend of Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese influences. A special mention for exceptional cocktails to accompany sushi, maki and sashimi, revisited by the Buddha-Bar.

“Very chic Asian restaurant and bar”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

Very cool place (the car collection outside is something to behold) which has both an atmospheric dj and bar downstairs and modern Asian cuisine restaurant upstairs. Pricey but worth it for a special occasion.

“Buddha Bar - Great atmosphere but a couple of hitches”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

Great atmosphere loved it, food excellent. Staff borderline rude and watch out for the toilets, two different people in our group got stuck in them!

“Great for pre-dinner drinks, and maybe later too...”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

We were staying in Nice for a week, and making a trip to Monaco. We planned to arrive mid-afternoon, explore a little, and then have drinks and dinner, returning to Nice on the night bus early the following morning. I researched online where we'd eat and drink first - since we were only visiting once during our trip I wanted to ensure we went to nice places.

I was travelling with my husband and our friend. All three of us appreciate good cocktails, so ultimately my research led me to believe Buddha Bar would fit the bill. This was quite right. We went for the 'Happy Hours' between 6 and 8 - the same drinks list but with all the prices reduced by about 30%, which is nice. We sat on the small terrace outside which gave a nice view of the sea, an unexpected bonus as all I'd read about in reviews was the interior décor. It's amazing, but seemed a shame to waste the glorious evening sunshine! We had 2 cocktails each and they were all delicious. We're happy to pay £10-20 for a great cocktail but get very irked when places charge that amount and then deliver mediocre cocktails. In Happy Hours at Buddha Bar, cocktails were EUR13-14 and really genuinely excellent. Great ingredients, prepared with care. And a massive bowl of prawn crackers to accompany - I'm not normally a fan of prawn crackers but these were great! we scoffed the lot! Great staff too, very friendly service.

We then left to go to dinner at La Chaumiere, which was excellent and I've reviewed elsewhere.

We'd enjoyed Buddha Bar so much that we returned after dinner. It was pretty late by then - we'd left the restaurant about 9.30 but explored Monaco and 'the rock' on the way back down, so we didn't arrive back at Buddha Bar until gone 11pm. Obviously by then the cocktails were back on full price - boo!

It was a pretty different crowd (as you'd expect, to be fair). Girls universally 'dressed to impressed' in dresses, heels and sparkle. Some men dressed the same, but quite a lo of older men in sailing type clothes too. No dress code though as far as we could see, there were a few people in there more casually attired too.

But over the couple of hours we were there the character changed. Looking around us, we suddenly realised the place was HEAVING with 'ladies of the night' and the men they were with. After you've seen several parties of middle aged/ older men with parties of very young, very scantily clad girls you start to get the hint... all a bit tragic and pretty depressing, tbh. The location of the bar is in one part of the casino building, just near JimmyZ nightclub entrance and the whole area is pretty seedy (in an expensive sort of a way!) at that time on a Saturday night, so it's probably to be expected. But it was a little disappointing as from our experience earlier we'd thought we'd found a really cool bar. Well, we did, but some of the clientele left much to be desired!

However it did make for some pretty amazing people watching!

It may be that on other nights of the week than Saturdays the bar has a different character again. I'd certainly recommend it during Happy Hours as the value was outstanding. I'd also recommend it later but just know what to expect!

As a footnote, the décor is pretty cool, as others have said. Although we're regulars in Las Vegas these days which tends to make you a little jaded about excessive OTT décor! it's definitely Vegas-style, however.

Finally, as you can tell from the review, we didn't eat here, only cocktails. If we hadn't found La Chaumiere I'd say we'd happily have tried Buddha Bar for food, but as it is, I'd take the bargain cocktails here during Happy Hour and then make the walk up to La Chaumiere again, as we did on this trip.

“Very interesting”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

The Buddha Bar is some what eclectic and laid back. We went there twice for night caps and were lucky enough to get seated on the patio, which is quite relaxing and well light. We looked inside and it looked like a nice place to dance and meet people. It looked very comfortable and was very packed, but we were happy to finish off our nights sitting on the patio. The droning music in the background is quiet enough, but still I could have done without it. All in all a very good spot to check out.
